New On3 RPM five-star prediction logged for Texas Tech

New On3 RPM five-star prediction logged for Texas Tech

Spring has fully sprung in the Lone Star State as high school football teams returned to the field for practice and college coaches are back on the road on the hunt for talent.

Among the hot spots in Central Texas this spring has been Temple (Texas) Lake Belton High School, home to the nation’s No. 2-ranked wide receiver Micah Hudson, one of the nation’s best prospects still on the board in this 2024 recruiting cycle.

As spring football picks up, so has the buzz around Hudson and his recruitment. In talking to sources close to and familiar with the elite wide receiver’s recruitment, much of the conversation has centered around two programs: Texas and Texas Tech.

Hudson, the No. 2-ranked player in-state, has been a top target for major college football national powers. Ohio State got Hudson on campus during the season in spite of a tight in-season schedule. Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee have also tried to take seats at the table.

Hudson has elected instead of keep the in-state programs in the forefront. He’s frequented Austin dating back to last season, including a series of trips at the top of the calendar year to meet with and better familiarize himself with first-year Longhorns receivers coach Chris Jackson, who replaced Brennan Marion in January.

The Longhorns have massive staying power with the five-star wide receiver, but for much of the spring the buzz around Hudson has really centered around the Red Raiders.

In talking to sources close to Hudson’s recruitment, there is a growing feeling that Texas Tech is emerging as the “team to beat.” Sources point to the wide receiver’s family connections to the university, which have loomed large in getting the Central Texas prospect out West to Lubbock on several occasions, including Tech’s massive in-state junior day in March.

Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire, offensive coordinator Zach Kittley and passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Justin Johnson are among the many bodies helping to try and pull Hudson to Lubbock. There is a good amount of optimism in the building about the team’s chances of landing Hudson, and even more confidence about where their positioned long-term in this recruitment.

Hudson is also considered a person who liked to “be different,” one source said, and allowing him to flourish at a place like Texas Tech has real “appeal” to him.

I’ve logged an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick in favor of Texas Tech in what would be a massive recruiting coup yet for McGuire and this Red Raiders staff. In this particular case, the Texas-rooted staff has flirted with big names and prospered quickly off of strong evaluations.

In this case, I like Tech’s chances.
