New On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick for Texas

The Texas Longhorns are recruiting the state of Florida with more effort than ever ahead of the move to the SEC in 2024. And in the case of one prospect playing at IMG Academy, he’s originally from the Lone Star State now finishing high school in the Sunshine State.

On July 15 of 2022, I entered an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick at 70% for Texas to eventually land On3 Industry Ranking 4-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell. That pick was made during the Under Armour Future 50 event at IMG Academy after talking with a pair of people very close to the recruitment.

After receiving further intel late last week, that prediction has been upped to 75% with the Longhorns set to host the instinctive safety for an official visit June 23-25. Johnson-Rubell has a number of Texas coaches involved in his recruitment, including head coach Steve Sarkisian and safeties coach Blake Gideon.

Texas has real competition for the Texas native. He has made spring visits to Ohio State, Michigan and TCU along with Texas, and will be at Alabama for the Crimson Tide’s spring game Saturday. He also plans to take in the Colorado spring game April 22, and has a connection to Deion Sanders from youth football.

Johnson-Rubell also has two other official visits set for June. He will visit very close to home TCU June 2-4 and Ohio State June 16-18. A June 9-11 visit is also expected, with the program to be determined shortly.

Johnson-Rubell played at Brewer High in Fort Worth prior to transferring to IMG Academy. He was named 3-5A first-team all-district selection as a sophomore at Brewer after recording 60 tackles and seven pass break ups in 2021. He was named MaxPreps Junior second-team All-American following the 2022 season at IMG Academy.
