New Mexico’s Donovan Dent enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

New Mexico’s Donovan Dent was one of the best scorers in all of college basketball this season. Now, he’ll be available during this cycle in the portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Dent plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Dent spent the past three seasons playing with the Lobos for Richard Pitino. He averaged 13.5 points (50.3% FG, 36.8% 3PT), 4.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 104 games while in Albuquerque as an honoree as All-Mountain West.

That included this past season with career-best stats as a junior for Dent. Dent posted 20.4 points (49% FG, 40.9% 3PT), which was the most in the conference and ninth in the sport this year, along with 6.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals over 35 games. That won him Mountain West Player of the Year and earned him recognition as First Team All-Mountain West.

With that, New Mexico had one of their best seasons in school history. The Lobos finished at 27-8 overall in winning the regular season in the Mountain West and making it to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament. In an upset over No. 7 Marquette and an upset attempt against No. 2 Michigan State, Dent averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds.

Dent, a native of Corona, California, played high school basketball at Centennial. He was one of the top players in the state by his senior year in winning a state title and being California Mr. Basketball as well as the John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year and Los Angeles Times Player of the Year.

Dent developed at New Mexico into one of the best overall scorers as well as mid-major guards in college ‘hoops. He’ll now look to capitalize on that ahead of his senior season by entering his name into the portal.
