New “Inside the Trojans’ Huddle” (Tuesday, Aug. 8) edition: Training camp evaluations and analysis, Pac-12 demise, recruiting, and more

In Tuesday’s edition of Inside the Trojans’ Huddle, panelists Marc Kulkins, Erik McKinney, Chris Arledge, and Greg Katz give their opinions, observations, and analysis of Troy’s latest available training camp information, the demise of the Pac-12, the latest USC recruiting news, and viewers’ questions and panel answers.

In the first half of the Huddle, the panel discusses USC’s recent scrimmage and the top performers on offense and defense What are the takeaways and concerns, and what’s ahead for the balance of training camp? Who are the obvious and not-so-obvious performers?

Panelists are asked which freshmen have made their presence felt both on offense and defense. Think you know? The panel certainly has a handle on the freshmen’ info.

The first half raps up with a question about the two recent class of 2024 USC decommitments by safety Dakoda Fields and offensive lineman Manasse Itete. Is the panel alarmed by the loss of these 4-star players at this point? Does the panel agree on the impact of these two high-profile recruits?

Halftime asks a series of questions beginning with how will the “new” Big Ten affect the Rose Bowl Game going forward.  With all the new conference alignments, should the College Football Playoff consider expanding from 12 teams to 14 or 16 teams in the future? Three panelists say no, but one panel member strongly believes there should be an expansion regarding the number of teams. Who is it or do we even need to ask? And, of course, how about this new policy for the upcoming Salute to Troy, which allows the general public to attend for “just” $90 dollars per person? Will the WeAreSC panel be in attendance? You might be surprised by the answer.

In the second half of the Huddle, the panel gives their thoughts and evaluation on the demise of the Pac-12 and the reasons for it. Could it have been prevented? The panel does a thorough autopsy, and it isn’t pretty.

The second half panel discussion includes whether the Trojans should play not only UCLA but Oregon and Washington on an annual basis in the Big Ten. With the addition of Oregon and Washington to the Big Ten, do the games in 2023 take on a bigger meaning in terms of future program perceptions and recruiting? And given all the conference realignments basically morphing into super conferences, should the College Football Playoffs reexamine the number of teams in the 2024 and 2025 playoffs, which also includes a format review?

In Overtime, panelists answer a series of questions from viewers and listeners. Those questions include class of 2024 safety Dakoda Fields and his flip to Oregon, the Oregon recruiting challenge, the fate of the Rose Bowl, Oregon and Washington joining the Big Ten, the worst away game stadium the panel has watched a Trojans football game, roster questions, and a point average for the 2023 Trojans’ defense.
