New England Patriots select TreVeyon Henderson in 2nd round of 2025 NFL Draft

One half of Ohio State’s national title-winning backfield, TreVeyon Henderson showcased his playmaking ability in both the running and passing games. Now, he’s heading to the next level.

The New England Patriots selected Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He put together an impressive four-year career at Ohio State, which culminated with a national championship in 2024.

Henderson finished a close second on the Ohio State roster in rushing yards behind backfield mate Quinshon Judkins. His 7.1 yards per attempt led the Buckeyes as he totaled 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground while adding 284 receiving yards and a touchdown in the passing game. That lone receiving score came in the Cotton Bowl on a 75-yard touchdown against Texas.

All told, Henderson ended his Ohio State career with 3,761 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns in addition to his 853 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a pass-catcher. Now, he’s heading to the NFL as part of a jam-packed running back class.

Henderson played high school football at Hopewell (VA), where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 19 overall player and No. 1-ranked running back from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about TreVeyon Henderson

TreVeyon Henderson was impressive during the pre-draft process as he looked to improve his draft stock. He finished tied for seventh in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.47-second attempt and found himself in the middle of a historically great crew of running backs in the draft.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein pointed out Henderson’s ability to make big plays on third down, as well as make an impact in pass protection. Although he stopped short of putting him on the level of Jahmyr Gibbs, Zierlein pointed out the opportunity for Henderson to take on a similar role in an offense.

“Henderson is capable of starring on third downs or biting off a bigger chunk as a three-down option,” Zierlein wrote. “He has average size but above-average juice with good acceleration. He’s an average decision-maker inside and is not overly creative once confronted by the defense, but he has the pacing and subtle shiftiness to excel as an outside runner.

“He might be the best pass-protecting running back in this draft and is more than capable as a pass-catcher. Henderson isn’t Jahmyr Gibbs, but he can operate in a similar role for teams looking to add a more dynamic player to their running back room.”
