New 4-star On3 RPM pick for LSU

LSU is one of the top teams early on for 2025 four-star Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist running back James Simon. The in-state target now has an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick on his profile from me.

The Tigers have made a big impression early on and while programs like Notre Dame, TCU, Texas, Oregon and others are pushing, I get the sense he stays in-state.

I already have a prediction in for fellow 2025 running prospect Harlem Berry, the nation’s No. 1 running back, according to On3. Landing Berry and Simon would give the Tigers two of the nation’s best running backs.

There’s no timetable for a decision, but LSU is viewed as the team to beat.

LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson has a long-standing relationship with the Simon Family. The whole culture around Louisiana’s flagship program stands out.

“I love it. I love everything about them. When it comes down to fans, football, everything, just LSU, what’s there not to love about LSU?,” Simon told On3 after his spring game. “I love Frank. Good person. Can’t wait to see what he’s about when it comes to coaching.”

James’ father, longtime college football assistant John Simon, made sure James was no stranger to Baton Rouge.

“My dad’s from Baton Rouge so even though I don’t go to LSU that much, I’m always down there,” James said. “I went to LSU before high school. I just love the culture, people and everything about it.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Simon ranks as the No. 164 overall prospect in the country, No. 15 running back in the nation and No. 4 prospect in Louisiana. On3 ranks him as the No. 125 overall prospect and No. 11 running back.
