Nebraska sees Carlon Jones as a DL who has NFL potential

Carlon Jones from Bay City (Texas) enjoyed his time in Nebraska for his official visit. Jones got to see and do all of the things that you typically would on an official visit. The memorable moment was a presentation with the Nebraska coaching staff where he got to see and hear about where Nebraska sees him playing and who they compared him to.
“I flew in on Thursday night,” Jones said. “We got in around 9:00 PM. They gave us some food and told us to chill at the hotel. I met up with coach Omar Hales. They just greeted me and told me to chill out for the night and be ready to go bright and early.”
The actual visit activity kicked off on Friday morning. Jones said that the official visit was packed with things to do that kept all of the visitors going.
“We toured the campus. It’s pretty big and very nice. We also toured the facility and the new construction site with the new weight room, the big second building. We also had a photo shoot. It was a busy schedule, but I enjoyed it though.”
Carlon Jones was amazed by the new facilities at Nebraska
The new facilities are catching the eye of everyone that visits Nebraska, and it still needs to be completed. Jones made a comparison between the facilities and the staff, all starting new in Lincoln.
“I think that it’s going to be huge and amazing,” Jones said. “There are going to be a lot of things for football and entertainment also. The weight room is as big as huge Planet Fitness. It’s going to be way bigger than the one they have now. I think that is a good start for the new coaches.”
There was an opportunity on Saturday to get away from campus and hang out with some of the team. Jones said his host was a lot like him, and all the players had good things to say about playing for Matt Rhule.
“On Saturday, we hung with the players and went out to eat with them,” Jones said. “We got to chill at their house and got to know them a little bit better. Then we had some defensive meetings with our positions coaches.
“My host was Princewill Umanmielen, and he was a pretty cool dude. He is similar to me, just laid back and chill. He likes the people there, and it’s easy to adapt up there. Everyone knows you up there if you are on the team.”
Carlon Jones meets with the Nebraska staff
One of the best parts of the visit for Jones was sitting down with Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule. The conversation was about something other than football, as the two talked about the relationships that the game provides.
“We got to talk with coach Rhule, and it was really cool,” Jones said. “We didn’t even talk about football. He wanted to talk about how relationships work, and it wasn’t all about football. The coaching staff he hired, he either coached them or coached with them. I really liked that. He’s not going to forget about you when the business is over.”
There was also a chance to sit down with the Nebraska staff and better understand where Jones would play. The Husker staff see Jones as a player that can move around for them on the defensive line.
“The defensive coordinator told me he’s not looking at me as a defensive tackle. He’s just looking at me as a defensive lineman. He’s saying I am a versatile player. My coach now puts me wherever I need to go because I am an athlete, and I will do what I need to do to get the job done.
“We do a lot of stunts with me at my school, and that’s what the coaches at Nebraska said to me. They want to do a lot of stunts with me to help me get my sacks.”
Jones got compared to another Jones by the Husker staff
The official visit to Nebraska was good for Jones, who gave it a perfect rating. What he enjoyed the most was a presentation, and he and his father got comparing him to a current defensive lineman.
“It was a ’10 out of 10’,” Jones said. “I enjoyed it a lot; it was good. The best part about the trip was in the film meeting with coach Knighton. He did a comparison for me and my dad when he gave a presentation comparing me to Chris Jones.
“Coach says it’s kind of scary how similar we are because of the similarities between the plays we make together. I didn’t know how similar I was with him because I really compared myself with Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. Now that I look at Jones, there was quite a similarity. He said he never had a lineman like him and that I could go to the league.”
Jones has a busy visit schedule. He’s headed back home now and is out tomorrow for Stillwater. After that, he plans to visit another Big XII school before making a run to the west coast and then wrapping up in Georgia.
“I have Oklahoma State tomorrow and then TCU. After that, I go to Cal like five days later, and then I go to Georgia Tech. After those visits, I am going to take a couple of weeks and do some evaluating because those are the schools I am really interested in, and sooner or later, I will make my decision either in late July or early August.”
