Jake Peters doesn’t check all the boxes for a D1 offensive lineman. You have to look past that “flaw” of only being 6-foot-3. Nebraska has some shiny examples of great offensive linemen that fell short of that mark. Nebraska likes the player, and the person that Peters is, and he earned an offer following camp on Saturday and will take an official visit to Nebraska this coming weekend.
“Coach Keith Williams called me about two weeks ago and he invited me down to camp,” Peters said. “He told me that they love how I play the game.
“When I got to the camp the coaches put us right to work. Coach Raiola worked with me during drills and we were doing drills in Memorial Stadium which was pretty cool. Then we went back to the big indoor facility to do one on ones.”
Jake Peters thought he performed well and put himself in the discussion for an offer from Nebraska
Peters thought he did well in the camp on Saturday, which was validated by the Nebraska staff up to the offices. Peters and his family were directed toward the head coach’s office.
“I felt that I had a good camp and put myself in a great position. Then they took some of the people who had good camps and toured them around the stadium. Coach Keith Williams took my family and I to Coach Rhule’s office.
“My dad was wearing his shirt that says “SDFY” which stands for Somebody Died For You. My dad explained that he goes into tough areas and tells people about Jesus. Coach Rhule appreciated what my dad has done and was familiar with some of the areas my dad has been to.
“My parents and I talked with Coach Raiola and Coach Rhule and they made it clear that they believe in me and what I can do for their program. Then that is when Coach Rhule offered me.”
Nebraska could be in a great position to get Jake Peters
The offer from Nebraska has Peters set to return to Lincoln this coming weekend for an official visit. Peters admits that he needs to learn more about the University of Nebraska.
“I was really excited because Nebraska was my first Power Five offer. Nebraska is a school that I am very interested in. I am excited to learn more about Nebraska football during my official visit next weekend.”
Peters already has some important things figured out about Nebraska, like his connections with the Nebraska coaching staff. There are multiple coaches, including the head coach, that Peters feels connected to already.
“My relationship with a Coach Williams and Coach Raiola is great because I think we have a lot in common. Coach Raiola was overlooked because of height and played at Wisconsin and the NFL. I can relate to him a lot because I feel that I get overlooked because of my height.
“Coach Williams told me that he loves to work with Coach Raiola because they like the same type of linemen. They like guys that arrive to their blocks in bad moods. They don’t care about height.
“I know that Matt Rhule believes in me because he said that he would’ve offered me as a defensive lineman too. He said that he thinks that is the type of player that I am. It meant a lot to me that he said that because I have always known that I could compete at the Power Five level.”
Peters took several unofficial visits to some Power Five and FBS schools during the spring. He will be in Iowa on Tuesday and has no other official visits planned.
