NC State football recruiting: Who’s next to commit?

NC State football recruiting has its 3rd addition in the 2024 class after adding On3 Industry three-star defensive back Asaad Brown II from Chesapeake, Va. Who might be next for NC State football recruiting followers to watch?

Here are five suggestions.

On3 Industry three-star cornerback Jivan Baly

Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek High

The skinny: TheWolfpacker.com’s Ethan McDowell has placed a Recruiting Prediction for NC State with Jivan Baly. Baly has already set an official visit to NC State for June 23, so if Baly is next that may mean a bit of a wait for NC State football recruiting fans, but the Wolfpack has done a good job prioritizing Baly, who has already been to Raleigh on two prior occasions.

The 6-foot-0, 170-pounder would be a big pickup. He has over 20 Power Five offers after making 36 tackles (3 for loss) and 2 interceptions in 11 games as a junior. Baly is ranked the No. 68 corner in the country and the No. 72 player in Georgia.

On3 Industry three-star safety Brody Barnhardt

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School

The skinny: Brody Barnhardt is one prospect that seems to be on a quicker timeline than others, although he has slowed down his original plans to be committed in March. Barnhardt went to the UNC-Duke game in Chapel Hill on March 4, and is expected at Virginia Tech March 23, NC State a week later and then Wisconsin April 15.

After previously revealing a top three of NC State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, Barnhardt subbed out the Mountaineers for Wisconsin on that list, although North Carolina looms, too.

Barnhardt had 102 tackles (2 for loss), 4 interceptions, 5 pass breakups and 2 fumble recoveries last season. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder is rated the No. 65 safety nationally and the No. 27 recruit int he state.

On3 Industry three-star cornerback Ondre Evans

Nashville (Tenn.) CPA

The skinny: Ondre Evans did a two-day visit in March that represented his third trip to Raleigh since last June, when he first emerged on the NC State football recruiting board with an offer from the Wolfpack. TheWolfpacker.com’s Ethan McDowell has submitted a Recruiting Prediction in NC State’s favor.

Evans had declared the Pack his favorite, recently stating, “I don’t think anybody could knock NC State from being on top.”

However, Evans has indicated he would prefer to be patient and commit towards the start of his senior season, so his being next could depend on if he feels a squeeze to make a decision sooner rather than later. He has over a dozen Power Five offers to also consider.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder is rated the No. 66 athlete nationally and the No. 24 player in Tennessee.

On3 Industry four-star linebacker James Nesta

Cornelius (N.C.) Hough

The skinny: The reason James Nesta is on the list is because as a dual-sport athlete who may try to also pitch in college, Nesta may feel an urgency to make a decision before the summer.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Nesta visited NC State in January and was offered. He was expected to make a return trip this week, but that was delayed due to his baseball schedule. Nesta also tripped to Duke in January, and thus far in March has checked out Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, all of whom have offered.

NC State was set to be his first return trip of the year.

In 13 games as a junior, Nesta had 41 tackles, including 13 for loss and 9 sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered one.

On3 Industry three-star running back Jayden Scott

Stockbridge (Ga.) High

The skinny: The speedy Jayden Scott has emerged as the top name on the NC State football recruiting board at running back to watch at the moment.

Scott has announced a top 7 of NC State, Duke, Louisville, Northwestern, Rutgers, South Carolina and Wake Forest. The question is how long will Scott wait to make a decision. He has visited NC State twice this calendar year already, the first time Jan. 21 and then again March 3.

TheWolfpacker.com’s Ethan McDowell has submitted a Recruiting Prediction for NC State with Scott.

Scott is rated the No. 43 running back nationally and the No. 59 player in Georgia. He was limited to five games last year and rushed 64 times for 542 yards and 10 touchdowns. He eclipsed 100 yards in 4 of 5 contests.

As a sophomore, Scott (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) was third in the state finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.88 seconds.
