NC State football recruiting class of 2024 updated hot board: Defensive line
NC State football recruiting under head coach Dave Doeren always tends to emphasize recruiting both sides of the line. The Pack signed a trio of defensive linemen last year, one each from the high school ranks, the junior colleges and the transfer portal. That was the second straight class of three d-lineman.
Here is a rundown of known offers thus far out towards defensive linemen on the NC State football recruiting board in the 2024 class.
On3 Industry four-star KingJoseph Edwards
Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 112 recruit in the nation, No. 6 edge in country and No. 19 player in Georgia
On3 NIL Valuation: $105K
High School NIL ranking: 192
On3 RPM: Georgia – 50.7%; Miami – 23.2%; USC – 16.4%
The skinny: KingJoseph Edwards has visited NC State twice and has included the Wolfpack among his top grouping of 15 schools. However, Edwards is a national-level recruit who has visited Georgia a whopping 10 times and scheduled an official visit in June to Ohio State.
On3 Industry three-star Xavier Gilliam
Columbia (Md.) Wilde Lake
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 47 edge in country and No. 20 player in Maryland
On3 NIL Valuation: $16.5K
High School NIL ranking: 2,244
On3 RPM: Penn State – 89.1%; Duke – 4.3%
The skinny: Xavier Gilliam is a newer addition to the NC State football recruiting board, having been offered by the Wolfpack in February. He followed that up with a visit for the spring game in April. Gilliam said that his visit to NC State “really raised the bar.”
Penn State though has emerged as a favorite after a trip there in March followed up by an official visit scheduled for June 2. On3’s Ryan Snyder has issued a projection for Penn State with Gilliam. The defender is also set to see Duke June 16 after taking a trip there in April.
Quintavius Johnson
Atlanta (Ga.) Mays
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: NA
On3 NIL Valuation: $13.2K
High School NIL ranking: 3,548
On3 RPM: Georgia – 17.4%; Tennessee – 15.2%; Ole Miss – 13.0%; North Carolina – 10.9%
The skinny: Looking for a stock-riser? Check out Quintavius Johnson. He is a very new addition to the NC State football recruiting board, having been offered Thursday, a day after getting a scholarship from Georgia.
On3 Industry four-star Dominic Nichols
Ijamsville (Md.) Oakdale High
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 25 edge in country and No. 11 player in Maryland
On3 NIL Valuation: $38K
High School NIL ranking: 705
On3 RPM: Penn State – 68.0%; Michigan – 28.0%
The skinny: Dominic Nichols is another new offer this week for the NC State football recruiting board as the Pack continues to add targets to the defensive line.
NC State is playing catchup on Nichols, however. He has lined up official visits to Michigan (June 9) and Kentucky (June 16), and has visited Penn State on four occasions.
On3 Industry three-star Dimitry Nicolas
Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 42 defensive lineman in country and No. 71 player in Florida
On3 NIL Valuation: $23K
High School NIL ranking: 1,355
On3 RPM: Florida – 61.8%, Miami – 19.2%
The skinny: Dimitry Nicolas was offered by NC State in May of his sophomore year in high school. Each have led low-key recruitments, although Nicolas took visits to Florida and Miami in January and was back at UF in April.
On3 Industry three-star Xavier Porter
Tampa (Fla.) Catholic
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 65 defensive lineman in country and No. 98 player in Florida
On3 NIL Valuation: $18.7K
High School NIL ranking: 1,892
On3 RPM: Florida State – 28.4%; Penn State – 18.8%; Kansas – 16.1%; South Florida – 9.1%
The skinny: Xavier Porter visited for the NC State football win over Wake Forest. Afterward, he told TheWolfpacker.com that the Pack was one of the schools he is considering strongest.
However, his two official visits lined up thus far are for Penn State (June 9) and Kansas (June 16).
As a junior, Porter had 50 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and a pair of sacks.
On3 Industry three-star Tyreek’e Robinson
Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 37 defensive lineman in country and No. 55 player in Florida
On3 NIL Valuation: $17.7K
High School NIL ranking: 2,062
On3 RPM: Miami – 56.4%
The skinny: Ty’reeke Robinson was added to the NC State football recruiting board in February and told TheWolfpacker.com that he was “100 percent” considering taking a visit to Raleigh. Miami, where Robinson visited in January, is considered the frontrunner, however.
Darrion Smith
Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: NA
On3 NIL Valuation: NA
High School NIL ranking: NA
On3 RPM: Maryland – 25.4%; Penn State – 22.3%; NC State – 19.1%; Ohio State – 15.9%
The skinny: NC State is one of a baker’s dozen offers from the Power Five ranks for Darrion Smith. Wolfpack receivers coach Joker Phillips is well-received at St. Frances Academy, and he visited Raleigh for the Pack’s home win over Wake Forest.
Smith has led a relatively quiet recruitment, however. He did take a visit to Ohio State in March.
On3 Industry three-star Justin Terrell
Rome (Ga.) High
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 90 defensive lineman in country and No. 100 player in Georgia
On3 NIL Valuation: $18.9K
High School NIL ranking: 1,870
On3 RPM: NC State – 47.6%; Virginia – 41.7%
The skinny: Justin Terrell has offers from a half-dozen Power Five teams, including NC State. The Wolfpack offered on April 5, the same day as four other Power Five programs. That group included Virginia.
Both NC State (June 23) and Virginia (June 2) have lined up official visits with Terrell.
On3 Industry four-star Amaris Williams
Clinton (N.C.) High
On3 Industry Recruiting ranking: No. 27 defensive lineman in country and No. 8 player in North Carolina
On3 NIL Valuation: $44K
High School NIL ranking: 603
On3 RPM: NC State – 52.7%; North Carolina – 15.9%
The skinny: In what appears to be a shallow class of in-state defensive line prospects, Amaris Williams is an exception and one of the top defensive line targets on the NC State football recruiting board.
The Wolfpack appears to be in a strong position with Williams, who will officially visit Raleigh on June 9. That is his lone OV set up thus far. Williams has reported that he will announce his commitment on August 16.
As a junior, Williams had 65 tackles, including a whopping 44 for loss and 18 sacks.
