NASCAR playoff standings, Cup points updated after Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway

The NASCAR Cup Series playoff standings and Cup points have been updated following an intense Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.

In the closing laps, Kyle Larson was chasing down Martin Truex Jr. and Chris Buescher, and the No. 5 wheelman was able to pass both of them, securing another victory on an impressive season. Larson enjoyed the wine afterwards, while Truex Jr. actually ran out of gas, sputtering to the line on the final lap.

In the process, Larson was able to put all the playoff waiver drama behind him, and re-gain the points lead, due to some help from a disastrous afternoon for Denny Hamlin. Check out the full playoff standings below, after Larson’s third win of the season.

With his third win of the season, Larson was able to match Hamlin’s total for the season, and the Hendrick Motorsports star took over the top spot in the standings. Only nine drivers have victories on the season with ten races to go until the playoffs, so some major changes could be coming to the Top 16 over the summer.

As you can tell, the Toyota/Save Mart 350 shook up the NASCAR Cup Series playoff standings and overall standings over the weekend, and nobody was a bigger beneficiary than Kyle Larson. We’ll see if he can remain on his hot streak next weekend, as the Cup Series’ campaign moves to Iowa Speedway.
