Mykel Williams playing role in Georgia’s race for 5-star Justus Terry
One name was able to pull Georgia junior defensive end Mykel Williams into the host role two weeks ago for a group of official visitors, Manchester (Ga.) five-star USC commit Justus Terry.
Williams grew up and played high school football around 30 minutes from where Terry grew up in Manchester.
The No. 7 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings has the attention of the former five-star.
“When they first asked him to host, he was ‘nah, I don’t want to do that’ and they told him the name, he was like ‘I got you,” Terry said with a grin.
Mykel Williams makes a strong pitch to Justus Terry
Terry and Williams have grown close over the years. The five-star defensive lineman was committed to the Bulldogs from Jan. 16 2023 to March 24.
Terry flipped his commitment from Georgia to USC. Since that day, Georgia has continued to push for Terry. He got on campus for an unofficial visit on G-Day.
He then returned for his official visit on May 31. Terry was hosted by Williams. There are obvious similarities.
Williams was once a USC commit as well. The former five-star eventually flipped his commitment back to Georgia and signed with the Bulldogs.
Williams has been a three-year starter in Athens and has been projected by multiple outlets as an early contender to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft should he enter early.
Georgia has made the message clear when talking schematics with Terry. The role Williams occupies now in the Bulldogs’ defense is where they envision Terry should he eventually land with Georgia in the long run.
Terry has taken heed to the meaning of that. He’s also taken to listening to Williams’ message during his time with him. Williams’ pitch to Terry is of long-term development.
“He said they develop players a lot and they’re sending players out to the NFL, defensive linemen especially,” Terry said. “That’s what I love about it.”
Williams and Terry also share similar roots. Williams preached of an environment similar to the one that reared both five stars.
“He’s been telling me to stay down, it’s home, it’s just like Columbus and Manchester,” Terry said.
