Musings: Where will Kansas State be picked in the Big 12

Musings: Where will Kansas State be picked in the Big 12

SURE BETS

1. GUARD: Landing that last guard for the 2023-2024 roster has been a tough exercise for Jerome Tang and Kansas State. They have a few swings and misses, though that is to be expected. The most recent was seeing Joe Toussaint pick Texas Tech. I do not think they’ll head into the upcoming season without an addition at that spot.

2. Beebe: Though for some reason it was not a unanimous pick and I do not know why, K-State offensive lineman Cooper Beebe was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team. I’ll go out on a limb and say he will be picked after the season, too.

3. Respect: After a year where they won the Big 12, Kansas State is receiving some respect despite someone forgetting that Beebe existed. The Wildcats had four All-Big 12 picks. It wasn’t as many as last year, but it was just shy of Texas for the most in the league.

SURPRISES

1. Daniels: Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels was named the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. I’m stunned. Maybe I shouldn’t be, but I certainly am at this point. My assumption was that the winner would be Dillon Gabriel or Xavier Worthy. For the record, I voted Worthy.

2. Ward: K-State landed one of the individual awards as well. Running back Treshaun Ward, a transfer from Florida State, was named the preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. Not that he isn’t deserving, but I wasn’t expecting that amount of appreciation for him so early on in his career in Manhattan.

JURY STILL OUT

1. Big 12 poll: The Big 12 will release its preseason poll on Thursday. Where will Kansas State be ranked? if the team is any indication, and other forecasts, a top three prediction would not be shocking.

2. Final pieces: After missing on Toussaint and Wague, what direction will Tang and K-State turn?

HAS MY ATTENTION

1. Big 12 Media Days: For the first time ever, the Big 12 Media Days will consist of 14 members. It is the final year for Texas and Oklahoma but the first for Cincinnati, UCF, BYU and Houston. What will we hear from the Kansas State contingent that includes Beebe, Will Howard, Kobe Savage, Daniel Green and of course head coach Chris Klieman?

2. Peach Jam: It sounds like K-State targets Patrick Ngongba and Derrion Reid are already tearing up the beginning of the Peach Jam in South Carolina. Nike’s big annual event has all the stars in town, and we’ll soon discover who the Wildcat coaches are following aside from those two.

3. Boganowski: I’m sure he’s just feeding into the social media frenzy that can surround recruiting, but it is interesting that Kansas State target Michael Boganowski has shown some attention and love on Twitter to Kansas, in addition to the Wildcats and Oklahoma. They are probably a distant third, but it is clear that the Jayhawks have at least leapfrogged Florida State and Stanford.
