Musings: Kansas State makes transfer movement

Musings: Kansas State makes transfer movement

SURE BETS

1. KLIEMAN’S FUTURE: If his new contract didn’t make it clear enough, Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman used his own words to commit to the Wildcats long-term. In no uncertain terms, he told a throng of media members that he intends to finish his career at K-State.

2. FOOTBALL COMMIT: As Drew Galloway of KSO revealed over the weekend, we anticipate Kansas State landing a football commit over the Memorial Day holiday.

3. KEYONTAE: Great news hit the wire when it was noted that Keyontae Johnson was medically cleared by the NBA team. After a great stint at K-State, he can make his professional dreams come true. The closer the draft gets, the more mock drafts have him as a second round pick.

Chris Klieman: “I know where I’m ending my career and it’s at Kansas State.”

SURPRISES

1. WVU: Jose Perez of Manhattan, Arizona’s Kerr Kriisa, RaeQuan Battle of Montana State and Syracuse big man Jesse Edwards have all picked West Virginia. They also just hosted another Kansas State target in Olivier Nkamhoua. It is clear that the Mountaineers are going all-in for what is likely the final year of Bob Huggins’ career.

2. KNUTH: Not only was it shocking that offensive coordinator Collin Klein and K-State landed quarterback transfer Jacob Knuth, but they also secured his services as a walk-on.

3. SPORTS WAGERING: My hunch is that there would be a few scandals that would surface once sports wagering became permissible in plenty of states. However, the frequency of them is beginning to be a bit staggering.

COMMITTEDThank you God, can’t stop what’s destined. Prov 3:5-6. Blessed to be a Wildcat! Thank you @CoachKli @ckleincat7 GoCats! #EMAW @KStateFB pic.twitter.com/of05w3G5EV

JURY STILL OUT

1. REGIONAL CHANCES: Will the Bat Cats make the NCAA Tournament? After some bid-stealers like Tulane clinched a berth in the regionals, it is far from a slam dunk for Kansas State.

2. NKAMHOUA: Though K-State pulled through and finalized the visit plans with Tennessee transfer Olivier Nkamhoua, and he arrived in Manhattan on Sunday, it will be a tough battle that also includes West Virginia and Michigan.

3. RECEIVER: After securing a walk-on quarterback transfer and two scholarship defensive back transfers, we know that the Wildcats would also like to add a receiver. Can Kansas State find one available that is worthy and also land him? That’s the question.

K-State head coach Pete Hughes said if he was wearing TCU, Texas or Texas Tech on his chest, he wouldn’t be asked if the Wildcats deserve to make a regional.

Hughes added the knock on K-State is the RPI metric, which has “zero consistent value in the sport of baseball.”

HAS MY ATTENTION

1. TWO: That is the number of players I’m tracking that could remove their name from the NBA Draft pool and enter the transfer portal. K-State has been linked as potential suitors for both Antonio Reeves of Kentucky and Yuri Collins of Saint Louis.

2. PHILLIPS: How much of a factor can Kansas State be for Tennessee transfer Julian Phillips? It probably wouldn’t hurt if they impressed his teammate Nkamhoua on Sunday and Monday. If he didn’t stay in the NBA, and he isn’t, it has been thought that he would be SEC-bound. However, the only two from the league that have been connected to him are Auburn and Kentucky. While John Calipari and the Wildcats have several spots available, Bruce Pearl and the Tigers are rumored to be out of room. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t carve out some space.

3. NIJEL: The Baha Mar Bahamas Hoops Championships is in November, and the potential opponents for K-State are Miami, Providence and Georgia. That means a potential reunion with former Wildcat Nijel Pack.
