Mulkey, LSU trending towards another commit?

Mulkey, LSU trending towards another commit?

LSU women’s basketball continues to move aggressively on the recruiting front. As we talked about earlier in the week in my recruiting tidbits story, the visit from the No, 2 player in the country, Joyce Edwards, went well and now the Tigers are back on the road visiting Edwards, Sarah Strong, and Kate Koval this week.

The recruitment of all three has heated up significantly as in-home visits continue and all three have been on their trips to Baton Rouge. Now, it’s closing time for LSU as it chases several of the top players in the country.

Sources with knowledge of the situation tell the Bengal Tiger that LSU could pick up a commitment as early as this week, potentially.

For us, it’s uncertain as to who the commitment could come from, but the Tigers’ staff is feeling good as it enters this final stretch for the 2024 class.

Here’s a rundown of who it could be and what we know about each one.

My pick: Kate Koval

This is not sourced, nor is this an RPM pick (although my RPM pick is still on Koval to LSU), but this would make the most sense if there was a commitment in the next 5-7 days. I wrote three weeks ago that I wouldn’t have been surprised if she committed on her visit to LSU, but she did not, instead taking the visit to Notre Dame, which has been LSU’s biggest competition.

Now, with visits to her two top schools completed, it would make sense for Koval to be nearing a decision. LSU will be having an in-home visit with her on Friday in New York, which I’m sure will be big for the Tigers if they’re anticipating, or pushing for, a commitment.

Koval is a 6-foot-4 center from New York, but originally from Ukraine. As the No. 5 player in the 2024 class on ESPN, Koval has had plenty of suitors but LSU has been consistent and at the front of the pack for a while, so we’ll see if this is the week the Tigers can close the deal.

What about the other top targets?

The No. 1 player in the country is Sarah Strong and the No. 2 player is Joyce Edwards, both of which have taken visits this month and both are players LSU feels great about as we enter the final month. The reason I don’t think it would be these two is because it would be too abrupt.

Strong visited LSU earlier this month, visited Oregon last week, and still has trips to Louisville and potentially UConn coming up. Edwards still has visits to Stanford, Texas A&M, and South Carolina planned throughout October.

It’s hard for me to imagine either one shutting it down after planning those visits, but between these two, Strong is far more likely, even with Edwards coming off of a visit more recently.

The Wildcard

Five-star guard Jaloni Cambridge has been hard for coaches to really get a grasp on. The No. 3 player in the country could sign in November or could stretch it out until the “official” signing day in 2024. Her visit to LSU is planned for November and at the moment, but it’s hard for me to get a read on where she stands.

Back in June, Cambridge announced her top seven as LSU, Baylor, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Louisville, and South Carolina. It was thought to be LSU and South Carolina leading the way, but we have no news or updates since then.

Could she shock everyone and commit without an official visit? I’d be surprised, but with how quiet things have been, perhaps LSU has been pushing behind the scenes for Cambridge and really made its way in the lead. If so, that would be a true shock in this recruiting cycle because of how it unfolded.
