Mother of Top 100 Michigan RB Jordan Marshall talks official visit, Mike Hart

Top 100 Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller running back commit Jordan Marshall returned to Michigan on June 16 for his official visit. He was one of 15 commits in U-M’s 2024 recruiting class to be on campus over Victor’s Weekend.

“We were able to spend a lot more quality time with everyone,” mother Amy Allphin told The Wolverine. “Getting to know all the parents was a lot of fun and getting to know the boys too. Jordan already talks to them on the phone, over text or FaceTime so they’re really close. It was fun to see their personalities in real life. Their bond is crazy.”

Marshall pledged to the Wolverines on March 21 following an unofficial visit the weekend in which the famous “4 for 4” picture went viral on social media. He’s among the five Ohio natives in the 2024 cycle verbally committed and third from Cincinnati.

Ranked as the No. 2 overall running back in the country by On3, Marshall made returns for the April spring game and in early June. But the official visit brought more experiences that weren’t seen yet by the family, including but not limited to the M Power NIL initiative.

“The M Power presentation was amazing and different from what we’ve been before,” Allphin said. “I’m excited about it. It was very moving. It was different from other things that we’ve gotten a little bit of introduction to. But everything is different at Michigan (laughs) and we’re biased now because we love it. The entire process of M Power with the people who are on it. I know Jordan will say that too.

U-M running backs coach Mike Hart successfully beat out contender Ohio State for Marshall through efforts to build relationships with the entire family and making the tailback’s parents feel just as much of a priority.

“Coach Hart is like family to us now,” Allphin said. “We check in and talk to him quite often. When you meet people like (Hart), you’re just able to click with them immediately. Even outside of recruiting, he’s one of those people who always asks how Jordan is doing. Not just football-wise either but life in general. We talk at least once a week.”

Meetings with Jim Harbaugh on the official reminded Allphin of the type of person the Michigan head coach is behind the scenes.

“Coach Harbaugh was the same as he always is (laughs),” Allphin said. “A goofy, fun-loving guy. We love him. We talked about what to expect when we come up to games. He’s so easy to talk to. When anyone asks me about him, I always say, ‘He’s very passionate, genuine and relates to the players very well.’

Allphin said that the family plans on coming back to The Big House next week for the barbeche and this fall for at least three games. Her son might also head out to East Lansing to check the game on October 21, which is a day before Archbishop Moeller travels to play Detroit King.

On3 also lists Marshall as the No. 31 overall prospect in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of Ohio.

“Just to see him succeed and continue to work hard,” Allphin said. “I want him to get an amazing education. Develop a whole new family, which they’re already doing right now. I’m excited but also a little sad to see him leave (laughs). But I’m more excited knowing that he picked the right school. Every time we go up to Michigan, that feeling is solidified more and more.
