MOCK CLASS: Predicting which recruits Michigan State could close on during official visit season

MOCK CLASS: Predicting which recruits Michigan State could close on during official visit season

Michigan State’s 2025 recruiting class will largely be made up of prospects who visit campus during the month of June. In this article, we will break down each of Michigan State’s upcoming official visit weekends. I will then put together a mock class to predict which of those recruits will be the next to join Michigan State’s 2025 class.

Michigan State visitors (May 31-June 2)

Four-star WR Jeff Exinor, Baltimore (Md.) McDonogh
Three-star CB LaRue Zamorano, Corona (Calif.) Centennial
Three-star TE Jayden Savoury, Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s
Three-star DL Brad Fitzgibbon, Chicago (Ill.) Marist
Three-star OL Darius Afalava, Lehi (Utah) Skyridge
Three-star DB George Mullins, Bushnell (Fla.) South Sumter
Three-star OL Houston Kaahaaina-Torres, Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis
WR Braylon Collier, Sandusky (Ohio) Perkins High School
EDGE Mykah Newton, Newberry (Fla.)
TE Bradley Gompers, Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic

Who becomes a Spartan?

In the end, I think Michigan State will be tough to beat for St. Mary’s tight end Jayden Savoury. The Spartans have an advantage with his teammate, linebacker Charles White, already in the fold. The new staff has made themselves known at St. Mary’s since they arrived in East Lansing.

Savoury will also take official visits to Wisconsin (June 7), Kansas (June 14), and Duke (June 21) this summer. He told SpartanMag that he will have a final decision after those visits. With Michigan State getting the first official visit at-bat after multiple spring visits, Savoury’s relationship with Spartan tight ends coach Brian Wozniak could be hard to beat.

__

Defensive tackle Brad Fitzgibbon of Chicago (Ill.) Marist Academy took multiple spring practice visits to Michigan State in April. He provided strong reviews of the Spartan program following each of those trips. Fitzgibbon will kick-off his official visit tour with Michigan State before heading to Kansas and Iowa.

Fitzgibbon holds additional offers from Wisconsin and Kansas State, among others. He told SpartanMag that he will likely have a final decision by the end of June. I believe the Spartans sit well with Fitzgibbon ahead of official visit season.

__

Michigan State will also welcome back California corner LaRue Zamorano over the first weekend of June. Zamorano visited East Lansing on April 20 for the Spartans’ Spring Showcase. Michigan State came out of that weekend with significant momentum in Zamorano’s recruitment.

Spartan cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin will look to capitalize on that early momentum as Michigan State fends off hometown USC, Oregon, Washington, Penn State and more for Zamorano.

Zamorano will take official visits to USC (June 7) and Washington (June 21) this summer. Martin has been a major factor in this recruitment, which has helped give the Spartans a boost as of late.

__

Sticking in the defensive backfield, Florida defensive back George Mullins received a lot of attention from the Spartan staff during a spring visit to East Lansing. He will kick-off his official visit tour with Michigan State, and I think Spartan secondary coach Blue Adams has a chance to shut down his recruitment over the weekend.

Mullins is also scheduled to visit Mississippi State on June 14 and Oregon State on June 7.

__

Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis High School offensive lineman Houston Kaahaaina-Torres will make his first visit to East Lansing over the weekend of May 31. His relationship with Michalczik and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa has been building since their time at Oregon State.

Kaahaaina-Torres projects at the center position at the next level. He has already taken an official visit to Arizona State, with a June trip to Nebraska scheduled as well. Kaahaaina-Torres told SpartanMag that he hopes to have a decision made this summer. Michigan State sits well in this recruitment due to Kaahaaina-Torres’ long-standing relationship with the Spartan staff.

__

After Michigan State offered Ohio wide receiver Braylon Collier earlier this month, he quickly scheduled an official visit to East Lansing for the first weekend of June. He told SpartanMag that the staff had been in touch multiple months before the offer.

Collier recently cut his list to three schools: Michigan State, Iowa and Iowa State. He will visit Iowa State on June 14 and Iowa on June 21, with a decision expected after those visits.

Michigan State visitors (June 7-9)

Three-star QB Leo Hannan, Anaheim (Calif.) Servite [COMMITTED]
Three-star LB Charles White, Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s [COMMITTED]
Three-star RB Jace Clarizio, East Lansing (Mich.) [COMMITTED]
Three-star LB Dimari Malone, Macomb (Mich.) Dakota [COMMITTED]
Three-star DT Abu Tarawallie, Maple Grove (Minn.) Heritage Christian
Three-star OL Drew Nichols, Temecula (Calif.) Murrieta Valley
Three-star OL Rowan Byrne, New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep School
Three-star LB Cyrus Polu, Saint George (Utah) Desert Edge
Three-star TE Tyler Kielmeyer, Westerville (Ohio) South
WR Charles Taplin, Red Oak (Texas)

Who becomes a Spartan?

Of the four big official visit weekends, this group has the toughest recruitments to read. Of course, four of Michigan State’s five commitments will be on campus with their recruiting hats on, in an attempt to convince others to join them in East Lansing.

It’s unclear if Michigan State is willing to take three high school tight ends in this class, so that could result in a first-come, first-serve situation between Savoury and Ohio tight end Tyler Kielmeyer.

Kielmeyer (6-7, 235) holds offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue, among others. As of now, his only public official visit is to Michigan State.

__

Michigan State will also welcome back Minnesota defensive tackle Abu Tarawallie, who made his first visit to East Lansing under the new staff this spring. Tarawallie will head to hometown Minnesota the following weekend, with the Gophers emerging as a strong player in his recruitment. He holds additional offers from Penn State, Oklahoma and Kansas, among others.

Tarawallie (6-3, 265) has built a strong relationship with Suiaunoa and Spartan defensive coordinator Joe Rossi. The Spartans will look to bring in multiple high school defensive tackles during this cycle.

__

On the offensive line, Michalczik has heavily targeted California lineman Drew Nichols. As of now, I give the Spartans the nod in Nichols’ recruitment. Michigan State offered the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder in March. His official visit will represent his first trip to East Lansing.

Nichols holds additional offers from UCLA, Miami, Arizona and Arkansas, among others. On3 has yet to rank Nichols, but he is a three-star per other services.

Nichols has a connection to Michigan State by way of his mother, who grew up in the state of Michigan and had brothers who attended Michigan State

Michigan State visitors (June 14-16)

Three-star TE Emmett Bork, Oconomowoc (Wis.) [COMMITTED]
Four-star DB Tariq Hayer, Upper Marlboro (Md.) St. John’s
Four-star OL N’Kye Wynn, Muskegon (Mich.)
Four-star OL Nolan Davenport, Massillon (Ohio) Washington
Four-star DT Bobby Kanka, Howell (Mich.) [MICHIGAN COMMIT]
Four-star CB Chris McCorkle, Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney [INDIANA COMMIT]
Four-star RB Jabree Wallace-Coleman, Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute
Three-star DL Tyrone Burrus, Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central
Three-star LB Grant Beerman, West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West
Three-star CB Terrance Edwards, Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episocal
WR Myles Kendrick, Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside
WR Chase Collier, Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles
DE Cal Thrush, Columbus (Ohio) Upper Arlington

Who becomes a Spartan?

In-state offensive lineman N’Kye Wynn has shot up the recruiting rankings this spring, with On3 ranking him a four-star and the No. 2 recruit from Michigan. The Spartans will look to use their in-state advantage to beat out the likes of Mississippi, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Wynn visited Michigan State in March, which is when he received his Spartan offer. He will take official visits to Rutgers (May 31), Wisconsin (June 7) and Pittsburgh (June 21) this summer. I think the Spartans have a shot to win this recruitment with a strong official visit.

__

On3 four-star offensive lineman Nolan Davenport’s only public official visit is to Michigan State. Davenport (6-6, 280) holds additional offers from Penn State, Missouri, Kentucky, Stanford, Wisconsin and Mississippi, among others.

The Spartans offered Davenport back in February. Additionally, Michalczik visited Davenport at his high school last week. It’s unclear which schools will also receive official visits from Davenport, but SpartanMag will continue digging to find out.

__

Michigan State’s staff, led by Suiaunoa and head coach Jonathan Smith, have put the full-court press on four-star Howell (Mich.) defensive lineman Bobby Kanka in recent months. With it looking increasingly unlikely that Kanka signs with Michigan, I think the Spartans’ push will be hard to beat.

Kanka will follow up his Michigan State official visit with a trip to Tennessee. Wisconsin, among others, is also pushing hard for an official visit. Michigan State will continue to fight to earn Kanka’s commitment throughout the summer and fall.

__

Sticking with the defensive line, the Spartans have targeted Indiana defensive end Tyrone Burrus, who they offered back in January. Spartan rush ends coach Chad Wilt, who previously coached for Burrus’ hometown Hoosiers, offered him. Burrus visited Michigan State in April, while the Spartan staff visited him in May.

Burrus will also take official visits to Illinois (May 31), Kansas, Louisville (June 7) and Indiana this summer, with a few dates still not finalized. He has already narrowed down his recruitment to the five schools he will take official visits to. Burrus expects to have a decision made this summer.

__

Michigan State has also done a strong job of recruiting Ohio linebacker Grant Beerman. Rossi is looking for another linebacker to pair with the two currently committed, and Beerman is my candidate to be that guy.

Michigan State offered Beerman in January after Rossi, Smith and Wozniak all visited his school. Sources tell SpartanMag that Michigan State is one of Beerman’s top two schools. (I will come back to this when he tells me his final OV schedule)

__

Michigan State recently offered Ohio defensive lineman Cal Thrush (6-4, 230) after he took two spring visits to East Lansing. Michigan State and Cincinnati are Thrush’s lone Power Four offers at the moment.

Rossi offered Thrush after he stopped by his high school this spring. Thrush’s two visits to campus came in February for the Spartans’ junior day and for a spring practice in March. Michigan State’s early push could be tough to beat, even if Thrush picks up a slew of summer offers.

Michigan State visitors (June 21-23)

Three-star DB Gerritt Kemp, Dacula (Ga.) Hebron Christian
Three-star WR Bryson Williams, Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s
Three-star OL Antonio Johnson, Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s
Three-star CB Joshua Tuchek, Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan
Three-star WR Trey Jones, Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith
EDGE Quante Gillians, Aquinas (N.Y.) Institute
WR Cameron Dickson, Corpus Christi (Texas) Flour Bluff

Who becomes a Spartan?

I will predict that Michigan State lands all four St. Mary’s products by earning a commitment from athlete Bryson Williams at the end of the month. Williams is being recruited at multiple positions, but Michigan State likes him at wide receiver. Pittsburgh offered him as an outside linebacker, while other Power Four schools have offered him at safety and running back as well.

Eight of Michigan State’s 10 assistants visited St. Mary’s in May to meet with all four of the 2025 targets. Williams told SpartanMag that he hopes to come to a final decision after his official visits.

White, along with Michigan State’s other commits, have been in Williams’ ear about joining them in East Lansing. Williams will also take an official visit to Kansas on June 7. He has already taken an official visit to Harvard as well. He holds additional offers from Penn State and Minnesota, among others.

__

Michigan State will also host St. Mary’s offensive tackle Antonio Johnson during its last June official visit weekend. Johnson visited East Lansing this spring with the aforementioned Charles White. He and Bryson Williams will visit during the same weekend.

I also think the Spartans and offensive line Jim Michalczik will be hard to beat in the end, so Johnson will join his St. Mary’s teammates in my mock class. The biggest hurdle with Johnson could simply be the Spartans choosing to go another direction at the position, but with a limited number of offensive line visits currently scheduled, I project Johnson as the third tackle in Michigan State’s class.

__

Michigan State offered California cornerback Joshua Tuchek back in January. He took his first unofficial visit to East Lansing in April for the Spartans’ Spring Showcase. Tuchek (6-1, 170) is close friends with Zamorano. The pair spent their April visit to East Lansing together.

Tuchek also plans to take official visits to Arizona State and UNLV. Martin has done a strong job of building momentum for Michigan State in Tuchek’s recruitment.

Michigan State will take a second running back in the 2025 class. With Clarizio in the fold, Spartan running backs coach Keith Bhonapha can now be a bit more selective. Four-star Jabree Wallace-Coleman is the only running back on Michigan State’s official visitor list at the moment. He will also take official visits to Penn State and North Carolina this summer. I’m not comfortable predicting the Spartans to land Wallace-Coleman at the moment, but a strong official visit could be a step in the right direction.

WR:

Braylon Collier

A few names could fill the final spot at this position, including one of Myles Kendrick or Chase Collier, two Jacksonville, Fla., natives who both plan to visit the weekend of June 14. Texas wide receivers Cameran Dickson and Charles Taplin could be in play as well. Trey Jones and Giyhani Kontosis, two speedy east coast receivers, are also on Michigan State’s official visitor list.

A name that’s not currently listed is in-state four-star Kamren Flowers. However, SpartanMag’s Kenny Jordan reports that Flowers will take an official visit to East Lansing this summer. We will report the date of the visit when it is known.

Michigan State will certainly have more defensive back commits than those listed in this mock class, but I have a hard time predicting who they will be at this time.

As the nephew of former Spartan wide receiver Felton Davis, Virginia cornerback Terrance Edwards has a family connection to the program. Aside from Michigan State, Edwards will also take official visits to Virginia Tech, Louisville and West Virginia.

Four-star Tariq Hayer will visit East Lansing on June 14, along with four-star Indiana commit Chris McCorkle. Hayer will also take visits to Cincinnati, Rutgers and Maryland this summer. He said that Rutgers is pushing the hardest at the moment, but with a strong visit, this could be a winnable recruitment for Michigan State.

McCorkle will take an official to Indiana this summer, with Florida and Florida State also looming. Georgia three-star safety Gerritt Kemp is scheduled to visit the weekend of June 21. Kemp will also visit Mississippi, Duke and North Carolina State in June.
