Mississippi wideout visits, lands Gamecocks offer
The South Carolina Gamecocks have been plenty active in the state of Mississippi on the recruiting trail.
This week, Shane Beamer’s staff hosted one of the state’s top underclass prospects on campus and extended an offer.
Gautier (Mississippi) wide receiver Dillon Alfred from the 2025 class was the visitor and the scholarship recipient.

“I was happy and humbled to receive the offer,” Alfred told GamecockCentral.com. “I had a great experience and was shown such great hospitality as if I was part of the team, not just a prospect. I like that they showed me and my family love.”
The 6-foot, 167-pounder also had a chance to take in one of Gamecock football’s spring practice sessions, which left a positive impression on hm.
Said Alfred: “Practice was awesome to watch and actually see how they operate their practice. I saw many talented players and got a chance to attend the position meeting.”
With his ties to the state of Mississippi, assistant coach Jody Wright has been involved in this recruitment. Receivers coach Justin Stepp, of course, has also been in the mix.
Alfred was able to spend some quality time with each, in addition to head coach Shane Beamer.
“I think Coach Stepp and Coach Jody are great coaches with a lot of experience combine that I can learn a lot under. Coach Beamer took the time to talk to me and my family personally which stood out to me as well,” said Alfred. “He had good things to say about their football program and about me as a player and my ability and talent to be a great fit for the Gamecocks. He hopes that when the time come for me to make my decision that I choose South Carolina.”

Several other programs should be getting visits in the near future from the Magnolia State prospect.
Florida State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oregon, and Louisville are on his list. Alfred also believes Cincinnati and Ohio State could ultimately score trips.
The On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average of all four major recruiting services – slots Alfred as the number 200 prospect in the country for the 2025 class.
He is ranked by the metric as a four-star prospect, the 35th-best receiver prospect in the nation, and number 9 in the state of Mississippi.
What’s Alfred hoping to find in a school at the next level?
“A program that really want me to play for them, that believes in me and my ability to help their team win championships,” he said. “More important a team that is like family, a team of coaches that will take me past the college level and that I meet the team expectations as a player.”
