Michigan’s five biggest recruiting wins in June: Victories over Ohio State, Georgia, more

Michigan Wolverines football scored nine commitments in the month of June (eight in 2025 and one in 2026). Here are the five biggest wins on the trail.

Four-star QB Brady Hart, Cocoa (Fla.) High

The lone member of Michigan’s 2026 class, Hart sped up his timeline last month following an unofficial trip to U-M. The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder notched major offers from schools across the country, he was predicted by one writer to land at Clemson and he took visits to Texas A&M and LSU, too.

Landing one of the top quarterback prospects in the country — he’s ranked ninth at the position in the On3 Industry — is a win in and of itself, but how it went down makes it even sweeter for the Wolverines. After his visit to Michigan, which was a smashing success, Hart still traveled south to Columbus for a trip to Ohio State, where he earned a scholarship offer after throwing in front of the Buckeye staff. Hart committed to Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore over the phone before he even left Columbus to fly back to Florida.

Four-star DB Kainoa Winston, Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga

The No. 97 overall player in the nation chose Michigan over fellow finalists North Carolina, Oregon and Penn State. The Nittany Lions, a Big Ten rival both on the field and recruiting trail, were considered the leaders for the majority of the cycle, and Winston took numerous visits to State College, including for an official trip following his time at Michigan. Having the last word wasn’t enough.

Moore was crucial in telling Winston that he was a top target for the Maize and Blue, even before he hired a secondary coach. LaMar Morgan took control once he joined Michigan’s staff and built a relationship with Winston in short order.

Four-star EDGE Julius Holly, Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Holly took his official visit to Michigan early in the month, but also went to Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Wolverines set the bar, high, though, and the other finalists weren’t able to reach it in this recruitment, even though at one point it appeared Ole Miss might’ve gained ground.

Michigan doesn’t often beat an SEC power like Georgia for a top target on the recruiting trail, so this marks another significant win for defensive line coach Lou Esposito, who bonded with Holly including on their mutual ties to the state of New Jersey.

Four-star DL Jaylen Williams, Palatine (Ill.) High

Williams’ June 10 pledge was Michigan’s first in over a month, with the 6-foot-5, 238-pounder choosing the Wolverines over finalists Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Both Moore and Esposito were key in the recruitment, and Williams is viewed as a great fit for the Maize and Blue.

Four-star RB Donovan Johnson, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Once a top-100 recruit, Johnson suffered a torn ACL last season but is cleared for his senior campaign. He received offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, USC and others, but new U-M running backs coach Tony Alford prioritized Johnson from the time he was hired in March. The two had a prior relationship from Alford’s time at Ohio State.
