Michigan State to host four-star 2026 athlete David Davis at the end of July

As the calendar flips to July, the football recruiting calendar begins a nearly month long dead period that will wrap up in late July. Michigan State has taken advantage of the opening in the calendar, hosting an event for recruits and the programs alumni tabbed as ‘SpartanDawg Con’.

The annual event will return for the fourth year now, the first under new head coach Jonathan Smith. The date has been announced for July 26-27. SpartanMag.com has confirmed a handful of important visitors for the event as you can find the full list here.

Of the visitors four-star athlete David Davis, of Pittsburgh (PA) Imani Christian Academy, is one of the early highlights. The four-star is ranked the No. 243 overall recruit in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 20 athlete in his class, and the No. 6 recruit in Pennsylvania.

Davis (6-0, 190) was offered by Michigan State defensive graduate assistant Chris Gordon back in January. His other offers include Penn State, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Duke, and others.

The four-star has kept in close contact with the Michigan State assistant since receiving the offer in January.

“I talk to Coach Gordon a lot,” Davis told SpartanMag.com. “We usually just do a weekly check up to see how everything is going.”

“We normally talk about what we have going on for the day schedule wise,” Davis continued. “We ask each other questions and get to know each other, just building a bond. He is a cool guy, I like him.”

The trip to East Lansing will be the first visit to Michigan State for the four-star. Davis is excited to check out campus and learn more about the Spartan program.

“It will be a new experience,” Davis said. “I have never been up there to be able to see what Michigan State is all about.”

Michigan State will also welcome Florida four-star safety Xavier Lherisse, along with Arizona defensive back Camren Hamiel for the ‘SpartanDawg Con’ event. The recruiting event will be focused on underclassmen recruits, with a few high school rising seniors expected to receive invites as well.
