Michigan State recruiting target Trent Sisley shines on Friday Night at Run-N-Slam
Fort Wayne, Ind. – Michigan State recruiting target Trent Sisley (6-7, 200) is a wanted man. Coming out of the April evaluation period, Sisley, a versatile wing forward, remains a priority recruiting target in the Class of 2025 for the Spartans and several other Big Ten programs.
Sisley, who counts offers from Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, Ohio State, and Iowa, has cemented his reputation as one of the top prospects in the Midwest from the Class of 2025 while playing up an age group at the 17U level against NIKE Elite Youth Basketball League competition with Indy Heat.
“College coaches love his energy, and the fact that you don’t have to call a play for him, and he is going to be just as impactful,” said Indy Heat coach Jon Avery. “He’s the type of kid you look at and you know what he is going to be in three or four years. As a coach that makes you comfortable because you know he is going to be dependable. He is always going to do the right things on an off the floor.”
Dependable is exactly what Sisley was on Friday night at the Bill Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam. In fact, Sisley was the top performer for Indy Heat in the pool-play opener, scoring 19 points and adding eight rebounds in a 56-43 win over Illinois-based adidas Gold program M14 Hoops.
Sisley is averaging 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 54.9 percent overall against NIKE EYBL competition on an Indy Heat team that features Michigan State recruiting target Jalen Haralson, Spartan commitment Jesse McCulloch, and Purdue commitment Kanon Catchings.
“I am just trying to knock down shots, get in my groove, and do what I do,” said Sisley, who is ranked No. 47 in the On3 Industry rankings for the Class of the 2025. “It’s definitely good to be playing up and pushing myself.”
Sisley plays with a high basketball IQ. He has a smooth jumper and he can stretch the floor beyond the 3-point line. He isn’t overly reliant on the perimeter jumper. Sisley is active in the transition game. He is also a willful rebounder.
“He is unbelievable, and he has answered the call for us,” Avery said. “He is our number one rebounder. He is really doing a nice job of finding himself offensively, what works for him. I think that has been the biggest adjustment for him. Defensively, rebounding, he is there. Offensively he is figuring out who he is as a player and what his strengths and weaknesses are. He has had ups and down, but he continues to work.”
Recruiting has been steady for Sisley, who will be a junior next fall at Heritage Hills High School in Southern Indiana.
“Indiana and Purdue were my first offers, even before I played a varsity game,” Sisley said. “They have been consistent throughout the whole process, and then Michigan State and Iowa same thing. They’ve been consistent. They’ve been down to my school and I’ve been to all four of those programs.”
Sisley has been to Michigan State twice during the recruiting process. And Spartan assistant coaches have watched him play in-person during the past high school season, and again during the past two weeks of spring evaluation period.
“When I was up there twice I talked to (Izzo) both times,” Sisley said. “They see me being able to knock down shots and playing that stretch four or the three.”
Those qualities are among the reasons why Sisley has been a longstanding recruiting priority for Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and his staff.
“They like my versatility, and my being able to shoot it,” said Sisley of the feedback he’s received from Michigan State and other programs recruiting him. “Also, my transition, and stuff like that. They are always saying to work on defense and play both ends of the floor and to shoot it better off the dribble.”
