Michigan State offers transfer WR Christian Carter
Michigan State offered another transfer portal wide receiver in 6-foot, 180-pounder Christian Carter of Pittsburg State, in Pittsburg (KS). Carter entered the transfer portal on May 18.
Texas A&M was the first school to offer once entering the portal, followed by Towson, Western Kentucky, Stony Brook, San Diego State, New Mexico State, Kent State, Utah State, and Ball State. The Spartans and wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins joined the race on May 21.
The slot receiver has two years of eligibility remaining. Carter caught 93 receptions for 1,303 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career with the Gorillas. He also had 20 carries on the ground for 100 yards and another touchdown.
Carter tells SpartanMag.com he is hoping to visit Michigan State on May 25.
“We are shooting for this Thursday,” Carter said. “I am really excited to see the campus and facilities and just meet the coaches in person as well.”
Hawkins and Michigan State began reaching out to Carter on May 20, with the offer quickly coming the following day. The Spartans look to the portal for receivers, replacing both Keon Coleman (6-4, 215) to the transfer portal, and Jayden Reed (5-11, 190). Carter is recruited to play slot receiver by Michigan State, a position on the roster that could use a boost in speed.
“They reached out a little last night then called me today,” Carter said. “I think he’s a cool coach so far and the situation he told me about is something I believe I could fit into.”
“I am just looking for a place where I can have a chance to have immediate impact,” he said.”
Michigan State brought in Colorado defensive tackle transfer Jalen Sami earlier this month. Defensive back Amarion Smith also announced his intentions to transfer to Michigan State this summer. The Spartans are still in the market at wide receiver and defensive back, as well as other positions if the right situation presents itself.
