Michigan State Nightly Recruiting Briefing: In-state 2025 targets added to Spartan Dawg Con visitor list

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest additions to Michigan State’s Spartan Dawg Con event visitor list. We will also discuss other Spartan recruiting news and more.
Cashus Shivers and Andre Thomas Jr. visiting for SDC
SpartanMag.com’s Jake Lyskawa uncovered two more additions to the SpartanDawg Con visitor list on July 13, at the SoundMind SoundBody 7on7 showcase event at Wayne State University. Spartan target Cashus Shivers (6-0, 180), of Detroit (MI) Cass Tech, will be attending the event. Shivers holds an offer from Michigan State, along with Penn State, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, and others. He was offered on a visit in East Lansing for a practice earlier this spring. Spartan secondary coach Harlon Barnett has been in touch ever since.

Michigan State will also host three-star 2025 athlete Andre Thomas Jr. (6-1, 205) of Belleville (MI) for the event. Thomas does not hold an offer from the Spartans just yet. The visit will be just the second to East Lansing, the first coming for the Western Michigan game last fall. His offers currently include Penn State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Central Michigan, and Toledo.
Thomas is ranked the No. 450 overall prospect in the Class of 2025, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 42 linebacker in the country and the No. 10 player in Michigan.

Jason’s Take:
Both in-state additions are big as Michigan State continues to build momentum in the in-state 2025 class. The Spartans will also host three-star safety Desmond Straughton of Roseville (MI) for the event. Straughton looks to be a top target for the Spartans, as the hard-hitting safety enters his junior season.
Michigan State also offered in-state lineman Avery Gach, of Franklin (MI) Wylie Groves School. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound lineman will also attend SpartanDawg Con. His offers include Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Auburn, and others.
The Spartans also extended offers to lineman Bobby Kanka of Howell (MI), as Kanka will visit Penn State at the end of the month. Michigan State wide receiver offer, four-star wide receiver Kamren Flowers will visit Wisconsin at the end of the month.
As for Shivers, he is shaping up to be another top in-state target for the Spartans, making his third visit to East Lansing this calendar year. Michigan State found success at Cass Tech, landing four-star defensive lineman Jalen Thompson in the 2023 class. Adding Shivers to the mix could go a long way at Cass Tech. The in-state powerhouse holds nationally elite talents CJ Sadler, and lineman Khalief Canty in the 2026 class as well.
Thomas could find himself leaving campus with an offer in hand at the end of the month, as Michigan State continues to expand the 2025 linebacker board. The Spartans haven’t found the same success at Belleville in recent cycles, with an opportunity to buck the trend with Thomas, along with separate 2025 Belleville three-star Antwon Thomas. Antwon Thomas camped with the Spartans on June 23, also looking for the Michigan State offer.
In the 2024 class Michigan State found success in Detroit, landing four-star receiver Nick Marsh of River Rouge (MI). Marsh attended SpartanDawg Con in 2022, committing the Spartans the first time soon after.
