Michigan State lands transfer portal EDGE Anthony Jones
Michigan State received a transfer portal commitment in defensive end Anthony Jones on April 21, as he announced his commitment via On3 Hayes Fawcett. Jones (6-4, 255) spent April 18-19 in East Lansing for an official visit. He also took an official visit to California on April 4. The defensive end held other offers from UCLA, Kansas, Georgia Tech, and others since entering the transfer portal this spring.
Jones spent the 2023 season with Indiana, where he appeared in 14 games under current Michigan State rush ends coach Chad Wilt. Jones started four games, logging 12 tackles in his redshirt freshman season with the Hoosiers.
The defensive end spent his true freshman season with Oregon, growing a close bond with current Michigan State cornerbacks Demetrice Martin during their time in Eugene in 2022. He played in two games with Oregon, logging one tackle.
Jones will will look to provide much needed depth on the defensive line, as he will compete with current rush ends in rising sophomore Jalen Thompson, senior Khris Bogle, sophomore Ken Talley, and sophomore Bai Jobe, among others.
Michigan State is also set to host transfer portal defensive end Eddie Kelly for an official visit on April 24-25, he tells SpartanMag.com. Kelly (6-4, 280) spent the 2023 season with Georgia Tech, logging 36 tackles in five games as a true sophomore.
The Spartans also offered former Youngstown State/Illinois defensive lineman Anthony Johnson as well. Johnson has already taken an official visit to East Lansing, as SpartanMag.com works to confirm the date.
Suiaunoa and Michigan State also offered former Rutgers defensive tackle Rene Konga on April 19. Konga played in 21 career games with the Scarlet Knights, racking up 14 career tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. He played in ten games this past season, logging eight tackles and a strip sack.
Transfer portal defensive lineman Brandon Lane, tells SpartanMag.com he is looking to set up an unofficial visit with Michigan State shortly. Lane (6-5, 270) spent the previous two seasons with Stephen F. Austin, logging 56 career tackles, two and a half sacks, and a fumble recovery during the two seasons. He had 45 tackles in 2023. Lane also spent two seasons with South Dakota State before transferring to Stephen. F Austin.
