Michigan State hosts transfer WR on official visit
Michigan State welcomed Alabama wide receiver transfer Tyler Harrell on an official visit last week. Harrell spent his first three seasons with Louisville, playing in 17 games and recording 20 receptions for 559 yards and six touchdowns during his time with the Cardinals.
Harrell then transferred to Alabama for the 2022 season, missing the first half of the season as he recovered from injury. Harrell made his Alabama debut against Mississippi State and played in six games. He totaled two catches for 18 yards on the season while also playing on special teams.
Harrell played high school football at Miami (FL) Columbus, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 862 overall recruit in the 2018 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Michigan State will look to replace highly productive wide receivers Jayden Reed, who was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft to the Green Bay Packers, and Keon Coleman who announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on April 30.
Harrell provides speed to a unit needing depth behind sure starter Tre Mosley. Senior Montorie Foster has flashed potential in limited snaps, with class of 2022 recruits Tyrell Henry, Antonio Gates, Jr. and Jaron Glover also pushing for playing time as well.
The Spartans have two wide receivers enrolling in June, signed to the 2023 recruiting class in 6-foot-2, 170-pounder Aziah Johnson of Richmond (VA) and 6-foot-2, 170-pound receiver Jaelen Smith of Houston (TX).
Michigan State also welcomed Nebraska transfer wide receiver Alante Brown on an unofficial visit earlier this month. Brown committed to Michigan State out of high school before de-committing and signing with the Cornhuskers. He entered the transfer portal on April 16. Brown visited Colorado on April 29.
