Michigan State hires new head football performance dietician

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State football has tabbed Rachel Sachs as the program’s new head performance dietician, according to the athletic department’s staff directory.
She will be tasked with overseeing the student-athlete’s nutrition plans, coordinating with the training staff and strength and conditioning coaches, injury recovery and prevention and additional daily tasks centered around team practices.
Sachs comes to East Lansing after a brief stint in West Lafayette, Ind., where she worked as the primary dietician with Purdue’s volleyball, men’s and women’s swim and dive and men’s and women’s golf programs. Sachs doubled as an assistant dietician with the Boilermakers’ football program.
Prior to her time at Purdue, Sachs worked as a dietetic intern with Florida State’s football program. Sachs earned a Master of Science in exercise physiology while interning for the Seminoles.
Sachs also holds a Bachelor of Science in dietetics from the University of Illinois, where she volunteered as a sports nutritionist with the Fighting Illinis’ football program 2018 through 2020.
Between her stops at Illinois and Florida State, Sachs spent two years (2019-2021) working as a dietetic intern at Northwestern. Sachs worked primarily with the Wildcats’ football program and spent additional time assisting with their Olympic sports programs.
Sachs replaces Amber Rinestine, who departed from Michigan State this offseason. Rinestine returned to North Carolina in May to be the Tar Heels’ director of sports nutrition. She spent two years in East Lansing, starting in 2021.
