Michigan State DB commitment Syair Torrence details commitment

Michigan State landed three-star safety/nickel commitment Syair Torrence of Syracuse (NY) Christian Brothers Academy back on June 25. Torrence was apart of a Spartan run on the commitment trail, featuring seven additions in the month of June.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back committed to Michigan State after decommitting and officially visiting the hometown program in Syracuse. Torrence also visited Boston College and Pittsburgh. His other offers included Rutgers, Memphis, and others.
SpartanMag.com caught up with Torrence to discuss his decision to commit to Michigan State.
“I chose MSU because once I stepped foot on campus I felt I was home again,” Torrence told SpartanMag.com, “The players and coaching staff treated me like I was already on the team. I loved the atmosphere (on my visit) and love what I am seeing and hearing.”
Torrence was scouted and recruited by Spartan cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado.
“Coach came to see me in person and that shows me he wants to coach and help develop me,” Torrence said. “My thoughts on Coach Salgado and on his coaching experience is very exciting. He has coached at many places such as the Buffalo Bills and has helped develop a lot of football players.
“Michigan State is recruiting me as a safety/nickel,” Torrence told SpartanMag.com

The Spartan position coaches was assisted by some off the field recruiting, from Michigan State fans on social media.
“The fans of MSU are the real deal for real,” Torrence said. “It is the little things that made a huge impact on this decision. Michigan State is the right place for my talent and my education.”
Torrence was joined by his parents on the Michigan State official visit.
“The visit was unbelievable,” He previously told SpartanMag.com’s Noah Sprunger. “My parents and I enjoyed it all and my thoughts on Michigan State are very exciting. My favorite part was just being around the players and just vibing with them.”
The new Spartan commit is ranked the No. 1006 overall recruit, the No. 142 wide receiver, and the No. 7 recruit in New York by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.
