Michigan State-CMU availability report: Nick Samac, Jaren Mangham listed as questionable

East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State released its first availability report of the 2023 season Friday, ahead of kickoff against Central Michigan. As part of new Big Ten policy, each conference team is required to release an availability report two hours prior to kickoff of every game.

Teams list players as either “questionable” or “out.” Michigan State listed two players as questionable: starting center Nick Samac and transfer running back Jaren Mangham.

Michigan State listed eight players as out: defensive back Semar Melvin, linebacker Ma’a Gaoteote, defensive tackle Jarrett Jackson, linebacker Harold Joiner, linebacker Darius Snow, offensive tackle Stanton Ramil, offensive guard Gavin Broscious and defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren.

Samac nursed an upper-body ailment throughout much of fall camp.

Ramil, a true freshman, revealed Thursday that he injured his knee and underwent surgery. Broscious revealed in April that he sustained a left leg injury and underwent surgery.

Snow has been out since last August with a lower body injury.

A program spokesperson confirmed with media that Iowa/Miami transfer cornerback Terry Roberts is no longer with the program.

Comp’s take:

My guess is that Michigan State listing Mangham and Samac as “questionable “ is their loophole to refrain from coming out and saying they won’t play. Just a guess.

If Samac can’t play, I would guess that J.D. Duplain will start at center and Kevin Wigenton will start at guard.
