Michigan offensive line coach Sherrone Moore made it a priority to land a true center this recruiting cycle.

While Jake Guarnera played tackle as a junior, the three-star Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High prospect fit the bill of what Moore wanted at the center position. Guarnera recently transitioned to center for Ponte Vedra and opened his senior season last week.

While Guarnera is still getting acclimated to snapping as well as the intricacies of the position, he’s excited about his future at center.

“The first game is obviously going to be a learning curve,” Guarnera said. “This was my first game at center, so I think I have a lot of things to work on. There are some techniques that I have to fix. Going 100 percent in practice is something that’ll help me get there. I know I’ll improve my craft throughout the season and get to the point where I’m comfortable doing everything at center.”

Guarnera committed to Michigan in April over offers from Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State and a handful of other major programs.

Since then, Guarnera has been one of the most vocal leaders for Michigan on the recruiting trail this offseason.

So what’s keeping him so solid to U-M?

“Just the development that Coach Moore brings to the table and the success they are having,” Guarnera said. “Obviously, I want to go to a great program with a great culture. That’s what’s keeping me committed.”

Guarnera has built great relationships with Moore and the other four offensive line prospects committed to Michigan this cycle.

“We’re all really clicking together as an offensive line,” Guarnera said. “I’ll get on FaceTimes with Coach Moore, Blake (Frazier), Ben (Roebuck), (Andrew) Sprague and Luke (Hamilton). We’ll all talk about different things. Our relationship is really good.”

Guarnera is looking to get back to Michigan for at least one game this fall and has high expectations for the Wolverines this season.

“I expect them to win a natty,” Guarnera said. “I think that’s most people’s expectations. I don’t know if there is a team that’s going to stop them.”

At 6-foot-4, 283 pounds, Guarnera is ranked as the No. 32 interior offensive lineman and No. 423 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 56 overall recruit in the state of Florida this cycle.

Guarnera is part of a 2024 Michigan recruiting class that ranks No. 9 nationally.
