Michigan offer excites fast-rising 2025 DL Darrion Smith

Michigan offer excites fast-rising 2025 DL Darrion Smith

Michigan recently blitzed the DMV and offered a number of talented underclassmen, including Darrion Smith.

The three-star 2025 defensive lineman out of Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances caught the attention of U-M assistant Chris Partridge during one of his spring practices and earned a scholarship on the spot.

“It was a big offer,” Smith said. “I’ve been wanting that offer for a long time, so it meant a lot that Michigan came to my school to see me and then offered me. I was excited when it happened.”

While Michigan is a new addition to the mix, Smith loves what the program has to offer and has high interest in the Wolverines.

“I know Michigan is good school,” Smith said. “They have a good program and a good coaching staff. I have also heard that they have a great family environment. If I were to go there, it would be a good defense for me to be around.”

Michigan, of course, has a strong pipeline to St. Frances.

The national powerhouse has produced Michigan star running back and Heisman contender Blake Corum as well as EDGE Derrick Moore, who could be in line for a breakout season.

“It’s definitely a big factor knowing that some of the older guys before me went to Michigan,” Smith said. “It lets me know that it’s a spot that I should really take a look at it. It’s great to see them having success there.”

The next step for Smith is making his first ever trip to Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit.

“I’m still trying to learn more about Michigan, so I definitely want to get out there for a visit,” Smith said. “I more so just want to talk to the coaching staff. I want to build relationships with them and see everything.”

Along with Michigan, Smith has offers in hand from Colorado, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, USC and others.

At 6-foot-2, 260 pounds, Smith is ranked as the No. 36 defensive lineman and No. 382 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the state of Maryland for next cycle.

Michigan currently holds two verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in On300 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and rising Buford (Ga.) High linebacker Mantrez Walker. The class is ranked No. 7 nationally with a score of 85.978.
