Today is a special day for the 2026 recruiting class as coaches from around the country can now initiate contact. Michigan wasted no time doing just that, sending out graphics to key prospects at the stroke of midnight.

Top 100 Woodberry Forest (Va.) School running back Savion Hiter has already established himself as one of U-M’s most important targets for next cycle.

Hiter earned an offer from Michigan soon after the arrival of new running backs coach Tony Alford, who previously recruited him at Ohio State, and made his first unofficial visit in the spring.

“It was very great,” Hiter said. “Everybody was very welcoming there. It was great to build bonds with everyone like Coach Alford. I talked to Coach (Sherrone) Moore a little bit. He’s straightforward. Even though he’s new, he’s one of the top head coaches in the country right now. I think they are going to do very well.”

The visit also gave Hiter an opportunity to watch Michigan’s running backs go through practice, which definitely moved the needle for him.

“I got to watch practice little bit,” Hiter said. “I learned a few things from Donovan Edwards. That was great. I’m looking forward to watching him play this year and him being great. I think I would fit in pretty well. I like that they’ve always been a running program.”

As mentioned, Alford already had a preexisting relationship with Hiter, and the two have only strengthened their bond over the last few months.

“We’ve had a great bond ever since he was at the other school,” Hiter said. “He’s very straightforward. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He holds his players accountable. That’s what I really like about him.”

So where does Michigan stand early on in his recruitment?

“They are very high on my list right now,” Hiter said. “They’ve always been a great program. They are a run-first football team. Great players have come out of there like Blake Corum and soon-to-be Donovan Edwards.”

Hiter is looking to get back to Michigan at some point this summer.

Along with Michigan, Hiter holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina and others.

At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Hiter is ranked as the No. 2 running back and No. 31 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Virginia for next cycle.
