Michigan falls out of AP Poll for first time in 53 weeks

The Michigan Wolverines are out of the AP Poll for the first time since Week 1 of the 2021 season after a 21-7 loss to Illinois on Saturday in Champaign.

Falling out of the top-25 snaps a 53-week streak of Michigan inside the AP Poll.

It does not get any easier for the 4-3 Wolverines, who still have three of the top teams in the country on the schedule in the final five regular season games. No. 1 Oregon comes to Ann Arbor on Nov. 2 before a trip to Indiana on Nov. 9, who is up to No. 13 in the polls after blowing out Nebraska. A trip to Ohio State, the No. 4 team in the country, takes place on Nov. 30.

Two other Big Ten teams are ranked in Penn State, who moved up to No. 3 in the nation. Illinois moved up two spots to No. 20.

Michigan HC Sherrone Moore weighs in on next week’s game

Michigan has a chance to get back in the win column in one of its marquee games of the season, an in-state rivalry tilt against Michigan State, on Saturday in Ann Arbor. Coming off of a two-game losing streak, head coach Sherrone Moore says the sense of urgency will be high inside the building.

“Yeah, we know we gotta go win next week,” Moore said during his postgame press conference. “We should be motivated enough. You got an in-state rival, got Michigan State on deck. But we gotta get better ourselves. We gotta do everything we can from when we get on the plane to when we land to get better. And again, not finger-pointing, we can’t, but we gotta keep each other accountable, and we will.”

Saturday night’s game in Ann Arbor is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at the Big House. The Battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy will be broadcast on Big Ten Network. U-M has won the last two games in the series, including a 49-0 win in East Lansing last week.
