Michigan back in lead for On300 OL Bennett Warren after official visit: ‘I always feel at home’

Michigan hosted a number of top targets for official visits this weekend, including On300 offensive tackle Bennett Warren.

The Fort Bend (Texas) Christian product made his first trip to Ann Arbor for the spring game and enjoyed getting a more in-depth look at the program on his OV.

“It was really good,” Warren said. “It went really well. I love the people, the environment and the football. It was great being around the guys. We got to do some activities with people outside of the coaching staff, which was really dope. Getting to be around some of the commits and guys on the Michigan prediction list was great. They are great to be around.”

Warren named Michigan his leader early in the spring but backed off of those comments last month. Following this official visit, Warren said it’s safe to say U-M is back on top.

“I would say they are in the lead for me because of my connection with Coach (Sherrone) Moore, really,” Warren said. “I always feel at home around the staff in general. Coach Moore is a really great guy. You see a lot of the players treat him like a dad. It’s not fabricated. They have genuine love and respect for Coach Moore, and he puts the same genuine love and respect back into his players.”

As Warren mentioned, Michigan offensive line coach Sherrone Moore is playing a huge role in his recruitment. Moore made sure to spend plenty of individual time with Warren during his stay on campus.

“We got a lot of questions answered throughout the visit,” Warren said. “I was just having regular conversations with him. Some weren’t even about football. We sat down one day and watched my film and plays from the players at Michigan. It would go back and forth, and you could see I’m actively running some of the same plays that they are running. It’s not going to be new. It all looks virtually the same — run game, sprint outs, pass wise.”

Warren also had a 1-on-1 meeting with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

“It was a good meeting,” Warren said. “We didn’t even talk anything about football, to be honest. He’s a really cool guy to be around. He’s a wise person, so it’s always nice talking to him. We actually talked about the NCAA rules and how random and wild they are. He has some habits that’ll freak you out like when he starts beating on his chest (laughs).”

The Michigan staff also got a boost from player host Amir Herring. While he’s just a freshman, Herring is a great ambassador for the program and shares a lot of the same personality traits as Warren.

“Amir is a really cool guy, to be honest,” Warren said. “He’s almost as chill as me. We didn’t have to do too much. That’s what I like. I’m not the go out person. I’m the type to just chill in the house and play video games. I’m a don’t bother me type of guy, so it was great to just chill with him.”

Warren added the he enjoyed spending time with Michigan’s commits and top targets.

“I was hanging out with Boo Carter, Dominic (Nichols) and Justin (Scott),” Warren said. “Those guys are cool to be around. Ben Roebuck and Luke Hamilton came up as well to chill with me. We hung out, went bowling and all of that with some of the staff members. I have a pretty good bond with Ben and Luke. I feel like we’re similar, and I blend in pretty well.”

When came to presentations, Ben Herbert and the Michigan strength and conditioning program knocked it out of the park.

“Talking to Coach Herb was great,” Warren said. “He’s a special guy. The sky is the limit with him. I’ve never seen anything like the Michigan weight training program. They had a guy there who is a recent transfer. He was a four-year starter at his former school, and in the 14 weeks he’s been at Michigan, he’s done so much with his body that it’s unimaginable.”

Warren will make an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend. Tennessee will receive his final official visit on June 23. Warren has move up his decision timeline from the fall and is looking to announce a commitment at some point this summer.

At 6-foot-7, 330 pounds, Warren is ranked as the No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 170 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
