Micah Posey eager to begin recruiting in Florida State’s backyard

Last Tuesday, Florida State added Tallahassee native and Florida State graduate Micah Posey to their staff as the team’s newest pitching coach. Posey has spent the last three seasons at Dallas Baptist in the same role, winning the 2023 Conference USA Assistant Coach of the Year after helping lead the Patriots to a program-record 656 strikeouts last season.
Posey may be responsible for elevating the game of the Seminoles bullpen, but he’ll also be responsible for recruiting and signing the nation’s top pitchers to FSU. And in his introductory press conference, he revealed that he’s particularly excited about recruiting in Florida State’s backyard.
“I’m very excited, it’s kind of like still a hidden secret in the day of not many secrets on social media and all that,” Posey said. “Like there’s still a lot of kids that aren’t on the mainstream of travel baseball and they’re not being promoted and I’m kind of looking forward to some of those throwback guys that just want to play the game for the love of the game.”
Posey is familiar with the area, playing high school ball at North Florida Christian in Tallahassee where he also began his coaching career before stepping into the collegiate ranks. And his experience and connections specifically in the south Georgia and north Florida areas could give the Seminoles a newfound upper hand in the recruiting landscape.
“Yeah I’m excited to get into south Georgia and recruit the north Florida area Pensacola to Jacksonville and find the best players. I’m super excited, I’m partial to this area of the country for sure and I’m excited to get some of these guys in here.
In his coaching career, Posey has coached 29 players who have been drafted or signed professional baseball contracts. But before he can prove his worth as a pitching coach for the Seminoles next baseball season, he’ll have to prove it as a recruiter first, and it will surely be interesting to see what kind of early impact he can have on the program this offseason.
Micah Posey will coach with a collaborative mindset
Micah Posey, who grew up in Tallahassee and graduated from the school after his playing career ended, comes to Florida State after three seasons with Dallas Baptist.
He said he wants to be able to work with each player individually and figure out what works best for them in terms of building themselves up.
“I want to individualize approach,” Posey said. “The way I told the guys when I talked to them is — I want to collaborate. I want to work with them. I don’t want to be a dictator. I don’t want them working for me. I want to know what makes them tick, what they like. I love to collaborate.”
