Miami’s offers 2026 safety Simeon Caldwell, nephew of former Hurricanes defensive coordinator

Jacksonville (Fla.) The Bolles School 2026 safety Simeon Caldwell, the nephew of former Miami defensive coordinator Tim Walton, added a Hurricanes offer this past week as Power Five programs begin to take interest in the up-and-comer.

It’s too early for Caldwell to gauge which schools are sticking out to him, but Walton has helped familiarize him with the Hurricanes’ history over the years. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound defensive back also has offers from Michigan, Missouri, Pitt and Western Kentucky. He received his offer following Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson’s visit to his high school Tuesday.

“I was very happy when it happened but I tried to play it cool, but I was very excited on the inside,” Caldwell said. “It’s a great school academically and athletically with many great coaches and players throughout its history. My uncle used to coach at the school between 2004-2007, so I know how good of a school it is.”

Caldwell said he isn’t too familiar with the current state of the program or Miami’s coaching staff, but he’s eager to learn more about the Hurricanes under head coach Mario Cristobal. And Miami offering him this early in his recruitment will help keep the Hurricanes on his radar throughout his process.

“Any school that offers this early shows that the coaches see my potential and trust that I will be able to reach it,” Caldwell said. “So it definitely helps knowing that.”

He added he hasn’t had a chance to talk to Walton since receiving the offer, and he doesn’t feel like any programs are sticking out early in his recruiting process but has had brief conversations with programs like Pitt and Western Kentucky. He said “anything can happen” in his recruitment and wants to take the process slow as programs continue to offer him.

He doesn’t have plans to visit any particular programs this summer but wants to keep his schedule open if anything comes up.

Now that Caldwell has picked up a Miami offer, let’s recap where the Hurricanes’ coaches have been in their first week on the road during the evaluation period.

Nicholson was in North Florida while co-defensive line coach Joe Salave’a hit Gainesville Tuesday to check up on 2024 four-star defensive lineman Kendall Jackson. Co-defensive line coach Jason Taylor was in Boynton Beach earlier in the week to chat with the coach of 2025 four-star and 2026 receivers Waden Charles and Denairius Gray, and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was in Sarasota.

Tight ends coach Cody Woodiel was also in Georgia to meet with 2024 four-star tight end and 2026 EDGE Tyler Atkinson’s head coach, and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson watched three-star quarterback commit Judd Anderson’s morning high school workout.

Receivers coach Kevin Beard has spent time in California. Offensive line coach Alex Mirabal is expected to be in Clearwater Friday at three-star 2024 offensive lineman Joseph Ionata, four-star 2024 offensive lineman Jason Zandamela and three-star 2024 safety commit Isaiah Thomas’ respective high schools.
