With the 2024 recruiting cycle in full swing, one prospect that may be flying under the radar for many is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive back Romanas Frederique. Despite being an unranked prospect in the 2024 class thus far, Frederique holds a handful of Power 5 offers, including one from the Miami Hurricanes, a program that has shown heavy interest in him early on.

Throughout the spring, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back has visited Coral Gables a handful of times, with the most recent being on May 14 as he looks to continue to build his relationship with the Hurricanes.

“It went great, and I loved it,” Frederique told CaneSport. “I’m hopefully going back soon. I love the coaching staff. Especially coach Addae and coach Cristobal.”

After spending the day on campus, Frederique made his way to Miami head coach Mario Cristobal’s house for a get-together with the coaching staff and a handful of priority targets for the Hurricanes in the 2024 class.

“It was great,” Frederique said. “It was a great environment around the coaching staff, and everything was just amazing.”

Thus far, Frederique has built a strong rapport with Miami defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, who has led the recruiting effort for the Hurricanes.

“My relationship with coach Addae is great,” Frederique said. “He tells me I have to fix a couple of things, which I like. It makes me view him as a great guy hearing that, and I love how he keeps it 100 with me. I appreciate him and the entire coaching staff.”

Also aiding the Hurricanes’ recruiting efforts for Frederique is his fellow St. Thomas Aquinas teammate and Miami commit, four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson.

“We talk about it every day,” Frederique said. “We’ve got a lot going on, but we can’t say too much about it right now.”

Frederique is enjoying the early stages of his recruiting process

Frederique, who currently holds 13 offers from the likes of Miami, Florida State, Houston, UCF, and West Virginia, is enjoying his recruiting process early on and is excited to see where things go following the conclusion of his junior season.

“The process has been great,” Frederique said. “A lot of coaches have been reaching out, and I’m truly thankful for that. I’d like to thank my coaches as well for helping me get all of this.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami is the heavy favorite to land his commitment, leading all programs with an 81.6% probability.

When looking into a program, the biggest concerns for Frederique will be whether he fits in at a school or if he feels a genuine connection with a coaching staff and players on campus.

“For me to lock in with a school, it’ll come down to who’s showing me the most love,” Frederique said. “I just really want to see who wants me the most.”

CaneSport’s take

After making the move from Deerfield Beach High School to St. Thomas Aquinas this spring, Frederique has seen his recruitment pick up a bit of momentum heading into his senior season. Miami has been a program with which Frederique has been in frequent communication as of late, so the relationship between the two sides will be something to monitor as the oh-so-important recruiting month of June rolls around.
