Miami transfer quarterback Jacurri Brown set to visit UCF

Miami transfer quarterback Jacurri Brown might not be going very far from Coral Gables.

The former four-star recruit officially hit the transfer portal last week. At the time, programs in contact with Brown included Appalachian State, Georgia State, Mississippi State and UCF, among others.

Sources tell On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos that the Miami transfer will be taking an official visit to UCF from Friday until Sunday. One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2022 recruiting cycle would add needed depth for the Knights and a chance to start long-term.

UCF brought in Arkansas transfer KJ Jefferson this offseason. The grad transfer has thrown for 7,923 yards and 67 touchdowns with just 18 interceptions. The former four-star recruit in the class of 2019 has 39 career starts, touting a 20-19 overall record.

With just one year of eligibility remaining, Brown would be able to work with Jefferson this year before taking the starting job. The Knights have also lost quarterbacks Timmy McClain and Gunnar Smith in the spring portal window.

Brown played in eight games and made two starts as a true freshman in 2022, completing 60% of his passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He rushed for 221 yards on 53 carries, too. He started in the Bad Boy Mowers PinStripe Bowl against Rutgers this season, throwing for 181 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

“He’s played a lot of football throughout the course of his high school career,” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said in December. “He’s been playing football since he’s been knee-high, so we expect him to play his very best. And that’s it, nothing more and nothing less. He’s excited about the opportunity, he’ll be well prepared and his only focus is this football game and this team — nothing that’s happened before and nothing after.”

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback has three seasons of eligibility remaining. UCF will get a crack at Jacurri Brown later this week when he’s on campus.
