Miami pledge Isaiah Thomas looking forward to his Hurricanes official visit alongside his entire family, plans to do some recruiting for UM

Miami pledge Isaiah Thomas looking forward to his Hurricanes official visit alongside his entire family, plans to do some recruiting for UM

The Miami Hurricanes are slated to host a number of 2024 pledges during the final official visit weekend of the summer, including Clearwater (Fla.) International Academy three-star safety Isaiah Thomas, who is excited about the coming weekend.

The native of Toronto, Canada, who pledged to the Hurricanes shortly after the 2023 spring game, will be accompanied this weekend by his parents and is eager to show them why he chose Miami.

“I’m pretty excited, and it’s time to wrap up our final official visit weekend,” Thomas told CaneSport. “It’s a great chance for me to show my parents why I picked the school, so I’m excited about it. We’ve also got some guys going there, so we’re going to show them everything and represent Miami well.”

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back chose the Hurricanes over the likes of Florida, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and others. He is excited to take in Coral Gables but also wants to show the uncommitted prospects throughout the weekend why Miami is the ideal spot for them.

“I just want to show them that they may have other options somewhere else, but you decided to visit Miami, so why is that?” Thomas said. “What at Miami intrigues you, what gravitates you towards Miami, and what would take you over the edge to commit here.”

While Thomas wants to see a few more recruits join the 2024 class after this weekend, he is happy with the Hurricanes’ recruiting efforts so far.

“I think the guys that we have are really good,” Thomas said. “A lot of people look at the rankings and stuff about the guys and say how we’re a bunch of three-stars, but to be honest, it’s really early in the rankings, and I think these are high-potential guys. I really do think by the end of the year we’ll have a top-ten class.”

Thomas continued to hear from other programs immediately after declaring his commitment to Miami in April, but promptly dismissed any thoughts of flipping schools.

“At first I heard from some schools saying I could come to visit, but I let them know that there’s nothing that’s going to change my mind,” Thomas said. “I’m very positive and happy with my decision, and I’m not taking any visits elsewhere. I’m committed, and I’m going to stay committed.”

With his pledge solidified, Thomas is now looking forward to strengthening his bond with Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae as he prepares himself for the collegiate level.

“Before I was committed, it was more about learning who I was and trying to get me to Miami,” Thomas said. “Now that me and coach Guidry and Addae are on the same page, it’s more about getting me familiar with the system early and helping me learn. Growing me into the best player they can help me be.”

CaneSport’s take

While Thomas plans to enjoy his time in Miami, like a few of his fellow commits, he will use his time this weekend trying to recruit other prospects on their OVs as well, which you love to see.
