Miami offer machine keeps churning as Hurricanes eye 2024 3-star S Red Morgan

Phenix City (Al.) Central 2024 three-star receiver Red Morgan’s interest in Miami is sky-high after receiving his offer from the Hurricanes.

Morgan, the No. 44 safety in the 2024 class and No. 25 prospect in the state of Alabama, picked up an offer from the Hurricanes recently as his offer list continues to grow. Miami joins more than a dozen other programs in pursuit of the 5-foot-11, 175-pound safety including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. Miami secondary coach Jahmile Addae extended the offer after an off-field assistant quickly moved to establish contact.

“(Miami) asked did I have interest in The U. I told them, ‘Of course, my favorite safety Ed Reed went there,’” Morgan said. “I got a call from coach Addae and he offered me. I was very excited to receive an offer from The U because my favorite all-time player went there (Ed Reed).”

Morgan said the Hurricanes immediately captured his interest and that he’s well aware of Miami’s legacy of producing elite talent, and Addae told Morgan the Hurricanes were offering him because of his physicality, quickness and versatility in man and zone coverages. He’s also spoken with tight ends coach Cody Woodiel and defensive analyst DeMarcus Van Dyke.

“The message they gave me was that I could be a big-time player for Miami and could do big things at their program,” Morgan said, adding that he’s maintaining weekly contact with the Canes. The staff has also told him he could have an opportunity to earn playing time early, and the two sides are working to schedule an unofficial visit as he remains eager to learn more about the program.

“When you have players like Ray Lewis and Ed reed come out of the program, how could you not want to know about them?” Morgan said.

Morgan is also hearing from Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Alabama, Florida State, Mississippi State, Texas, West Virginia and others. He does not have any immediately upcoming visits scheduled.

CaneSport’s Take

Morgan’s offer spread is impressive for a three-star prospect, which suggests plenty of major programs see his upside. However, the Canes are entering the picture for Morgan relatively late compared to other programs, and likely without him getting to Coral Gables during the spring, Miami is probably on the outside looking in — which shouldn’t be a concern for Hurricane fans considering where Miami sits with four-star safety Zaquan Patterson.

CaneSport entered a prediction into the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine last month for Patterson to land at Miami, and the Canes’ need to land a safety in this year’s class has become apparent after not signing a safety in 2023.
