Miami OC makes two-day trip to see On300 2026 quarterback

Queen Creek (Ariz.) 2026 quarterback Tait Reynolds may be committed to Arizona State for baseball, but that hasn’t hindered Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s interest in the On300 prospect.

Dawson took a two-day trip to Arizona this week to watch the No. 236 overall prospect’s baseball game Tuesday night before watching a practice Wednesday evening as schools continue to show interest in Reynolds. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound quarterback added a Miami offer in early April and has kept in contact with Dawson over the course of the last month as the Hurricanes continue to cast a wide net for potential 2026 quarterback commits.

“It means a lot (for Dawson to make a two-day trip),” Reynolds said. “Miami is really cool, and obviously they’re a powerhouse, so I just thought it was really cool he was doing that. My family loves him. They’ve said he’s really down to earth and everything.”

Reynolds said he’s had “as much contact as I can” with Dawson for being a 2026 prospect and feels Dawson is easy to talk to. He said he feels Dawson is very down-to-earth and likes getting on the phone with him, adding he’s liked what he’s seen at Miami. He called Dawson a “calm, mellow dude” who has been good with both him and his family.

Reynolds has also been in contact with Oklahoma, Tennessee, Clemson and TCU. He visited Oklahoma and Utah this spring but believes it’s too early for him to name a group of top schools.

Dawson hopes to bring Reynolds to campus at some point, potentially for a prospect camp this summer, although Reynolds has not yet worked on his summer schedule and has prioritized baseball in recent weeks. He said he wants to land at a program that “really wants me” and wants to see how different schools run things on their respective campuses.

“I’m really interested (in Miami),” Reynolds said. “Like, 100% really interested. I really like how he came down here, watched a baseball game and came to a football game. It’s not easy to do. He’s busy and everything, so I think it’s really cool. He’s been in contact with me, and it’s really cool to see that.”

Reynolds said Dawson has told him he likes his tape, toughness and general playing style, and Reynolds has continued to like the interest the Hurricanes have shown. He said Dawson making the effort to see him over the course of two days only helps Miami’s chances.

“It just brings my interest up even more to see him out there,” Reynolds said.

CaneSport’s Take

Florida quarterbacks Dia Bell and Noah Grubbs are both priorities for the Hurricanes in the 2026 class, although there are still other prospects Miami has shown interest in like Quinn Murphy and DJ Bordeaux, both of whom Miami has either visited or hopes to visit at some point this spring. Reynolds seems to be climbing onto that list and it would be significant for him to make it to campus for a prospect camp this summer.
