Miami making 4-star QB Antwann Hill feel like a priority early on

Miami making 4-star QB Antwann Hill feel like a priority early on

While Miami’s attention may be primarily focused on the 2024 class, the Hurricanes have also continued to recruit the 2025 class and have made Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County four-star quarterback Antwann Hill feel like a priority target early on.

After conversations with Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, the No. 3 passer in next year’s recruiting cycle is feeling the love from the Hurricanes.

“He (Cristobal) wants me to help build Miami back to where it’s supposed to be,” Hill told CaneSport. “That means a lot because that means they trust me with their program and that I’m a big guy on their board. I’m on top of their board, so that stands out a lot.”

With both Cristobal and Dawson heavily involved in recruiting the 6-foot-4.5, 205-pound quarterback, he has begun to develop a close bond with the Hurricanes’ staff members.

“Coach Dawson always talks about how he coached Tank Dell and how they’re a pass-first offense,” Hill said. “This year, I think they’re going to spread the ball out and show off their talent.”

Along with Miami’s coaches, current Hurricanes quarterback Jacurri Brown has also done his fair share of recruiting, and he has given Hill some insight on what the program is like and how it could potentially be a great fit for his fellow Georgia native.

“We’re really close, and I’ve been training with him since he was at Lowndes,” Hill said. “He tells me how Coach Dawson came in and how it’s an upgrade since his last OC really didn’t fit him. He says coach Dawson coming from Houston really made a change in him and made him stay in Miami.”

Hill discusses a possible visit to Miami and his interest in the program

Hill, who was originally slated to visit Miami during the Legends Camp last weekend, was unable to make his way down to Coral Gables because of the Under Armour Future 50 camp. Now he hopes to make the UM trip later this summer or sometime in the fall.

“That was going to be my first time at Miami,” Hill explained. “I’m trying to get out there for a game or this summer (late July) for sure.”

Early on, Hill’s interest in Miami is high, and he is looking forward to building that relationship with the Hurricanes.

“It’s just the tradition,” Hill said when asked what stood out the most about the Hurricanes. “Back in the day, Miami was the real deal, so I’m just trying to carry that tradition on down there. I’m trying to work on some things, get down there, and build my relationship with coach Dawson and Cristobal so I can make the right decision at the end of the day, and Miami might be that decision.”

CaneSport’s take

Thus far, Hill has listed North Carolina, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, TCU, Oregon, and Miami as the programs that have his attention the most. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Tar Heels are the current favorite to land his commitment with a 79.5% probability.

With Miami looking to climb up Hill’s list of top programs, he believes communication will be key moving forward.

“What they would have to do is keep talking to me consistently on a day-to-day basis,” Hill said. “Keeping that consistent talk with my family and myself I like when a coach talks to me because that shows I’m their top guy and they want me.”
