Miami makes real progress with 3-star DL TJ Lindsey on visit: ‘They’re huge on my list right now’
Bryant (Ark.) 2024 three-star defensive lineman TJ Lindsey has locked in his Miami official visit following a massive recruiting weekend capped by a pool party at head coach Mario Cristobal’s house, the No. 424 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking told CaneSport.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman had been hearing regularly from Miami’s staff for some time before his first trip to Coral Gables this weekend, but he saw enough on his unofficial visit to lock in a Miami official visit June 9-11. He also has official visits set with Texas, Texas A&M and Auburn.
“I’d never been to Miami,” Lindsey said. “Me, coach (Jason) Taylor, coach Joe (Salave’a), we’ve got a great relationship. It was my first time meeting them. I loved the visit. I loved the coaching staff, the defense, the environment, everything. …It was definitely positive. They’re huge on my list right now.”
Lindsey was impressed by how well he connected with Taylor and Salave’a after meeting them in person and loved the defensive intensity the Hurricanes want to play with next season. He also liked Miami’s new defensive scheme, but he said his recruitment will ultimately come down to people and relationships.
Saturday, he saw enough from Miami’s staff to lock in his fourth official visit.
“This unofficial visit was a big part of it,” Lindsey said. “If I came down here and enjoyed my time, I would take one.”
He said Miami is among his top schools along with Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri and Arkansas. He has an On3 NIL Valuation of $24k and has more than two dozen offers to programs also including Notre Dame, USC and Oklahoma.
On3’s Chad Simmons previously reported Texas and Texas A&M are staying well in the mix for Lindsey as well, having made three trips to College Station this spring and loving the vibe in Austin. Simmons reported Texas and Texas A&M were viewed as the favorites heading into the visit, but Miami has joined the Longhorns and Aggies as a top contender.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami has turned it up a notch recruiting 2024 defensive linemen this spring, locking in official visits with five-star Justin Scott, bringing five-star David Stone to campus three times and making serious impressions on prospects like four-star On300 top-60 EDGE Marquise Lightfoot.
The Hurricanes have made defensive line a point of emphasis in this year’s recruiting class after only signing one high school defensive tackle and two EDGEs in 2023, and Miami is in great position to land some elite talent in its front seven — including Lindsey, potentially.
