BRADENTON – On Wednesday evening, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy hosted its spring game, displaying its top prospects from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes and beyond. Few shined more than four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, and the Miami Hurricanes have taken notice.
After watching the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker under the lights, you can see why the ‘Canes and Power Five programs across the country are vying for the elite prospect’s services.
Owusu-Boateng visited Coral Gables last weekend and went home to Bradenton with a very favorable impression of The U.
“The visit to Miami was great,” Owusu-Boateng told CaneSport. “Just talking to the staff and (linebackers) coach Derek Nicholson was amazing. I loved them.”
Since earning an offer from the Hurricanes in April, the No. 38 overall prospect and No. 4 linebacker in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, has begun to build a strong relationship with Derek Nicholson.
“Coach Nicholson told me if I got there, I could come in and start early,” Owusu-Boateng said. “That has been one of my goals when I go into college to start early in my freshman year, so that was good to hear.”
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami is the current favorite to land Owusu-Boateng’s commitment and lead all programs with a 37.7% probability, followed by Ohio State (17.3%) and South Carolina (14.8%), who round out the top three.
Although Miami is projected as the team to beat, Owusu-Boateng, who was wearing Hurricanes gloves during the spring game, is in no rush to announce his commitment and says he is completely open to all schools and is ready to enjoy the process.
“I don’t have any top schools right now,” Owusu-Boateng said. “I’m just showing love to all the schools that are showing love to me. Honestly, I’m just looking for a school that’s going to treat me like family.”
CaneSport’s take
After his two recent visits to Miami, Owusu-Boateng believes the Hurricanes are doing all the right things as far as recruiting goes, and he is looking forward to learning about and getting to know the staff more.
“Right now, Miami is doing everything they can to impress me,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Everything they’re doing right now is great, so that’s really it.”
