Miami joins Georgia, SEC schools in offering 2027 TE/DE: “I was just amazed”

Miami joins Georgia, SEC schools in offering 2027 TE/DE: “I was just amazed”

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School 2027 tight end/EDGE Griff Galloway may only be a high school freshman, but the 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect is already stacking offers.

Miami became the latest program to offer Galloway last week after Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson visited Providence Day School as the Hurricanes’ staff continues its offer spree while coaches are on the recruiting trail. Galloway has already landed offers from programs including Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Texas A&M, North Carolina and others, but his initial interest in Miami is as high as any other school. The Hurricanes initially talked about recruiting Galloway at defensive end.

Galloway said his head coach told him he had someone that he needed to call and passed along the UM linebackers’ coach’s number. Galloway said he wasn’t expecting much when Nicholson surprised him.

“I just thought that he wanted to talk to me, so when I heard he wanted to offer me, I was just amazed,” Galloway said. “I was just so ecstatic for the opportunity I was given by Miami, and I was very grateful I was given a chance.”

Nicholson told Galloway he loved his size and skillset for being a 2027 prospect and believes he holds tremendous upside early in his high school career. Nicholson also told him he could see him in a “Miami-style defense” that doesn’t limit defensive ends to only traditional pass rushing and run-stopping roles.

Galloway said he also believes Miami’s decision to offer him so early could bode well for the Hurricanes down the line.

“I feel like it has a lot of hope, because I’ll have a lot of time to build a great relationship,” Galloway said. “That’s what I feel like is going to be most important with me is building relationships with the coaches, because I have opportunities, and obviously if coaches get in there early I’ll have more time to talk with them, more time to go down on visits, so I’ll have more time to grow my relationships with the coaches and schools and everybody down there.”

Galloway said he though Nicholson had a “great” personality that shined through on their phone conversation. He said they also tentatively discussed plans to visit Coral Gables or attend a game this fall, although no date is set yet.

CaneSport’s Take

Nicholson was able to build relationships with some North Carolina prospects in the 2024 cycle and managed to get a few recruits down for official visits, indicating it’s more than possible for Miami to have recruiting success in the state.
