Miami Hurricanes standing out to top-25 prospect Solomon Thomas, who will be in recruiting section vs. Texas A&M

Miami Hurricanes standing out to top-25 prospect Solomon Thomas, who will be in recruiting section vs. Texas A&M

Miami hasn’t been the only school after Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines 2025 four-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, the No. 22 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, but it will be one of the first schools to get a game day visit from him this fall.

Thomas plans to attend Miami’s game against Texas A&M Saturday as the Hurricanes jockey for position on his early radar along with programs including LSU, Ohio State, Florida State and others. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Florida State as the early favorite, but Miami’s recruiting effort since Aug. 1 — when college coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2025 recruits — has made the Hurricanes an early contender.

Thomas also attended Miami’s July 29 end-of-summer recruiting barbecue.

“Coach (Mario) Cristobal has been great at recruiting me so far,” Thomas said. “It’s been great to be on their radar, and I want to get back down to see if it’s a great fit for me.”

Thomas has heard from Miami “almost every day” since Aug. 1 and has largely talked to Cristobal and Hurricanes offensive line coach Alex Mirabal. The duo’s focus has largely been to keep bringing Thomas back to campus so he can “really experience how it feels,” he said, adding they constantly tell him he can’t experience Miami over the phone. They’ve told him once he experiences Miami, there’s nowhere else he’ll want to be.

So where do the Canes sit?

“A lot higher than you would think on some different levels, some checkpoints and some things that we like,” Thomas said. “I like the O-line that they’re building. They had a great ’23 (recruiting) class, and they brought in some great D-linemen as well that I know can give me some work if I were to commit.”

CaneSport’s Take

Miami wants Thomas to visit the same way it wants dozens of priority targets to be in Coral Gables as much as possible, but Thomas’ relationship with Florida State and the competition the Hurricanes are facing from the Seminoles should give Miami some added urgency. On3’s Chad Simmons previously reported FSU offensive coordinator Alex Atkins has gotten off to a strong start with the 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive tackle, but Miami has hung around in Thomas’ recruiting picture. The Hurricanes’ position should give fans reason to be optimistic, but like with most recruits, Miami needs to win this season to give them a high chance with remaining targets on their 2024 board and 2025 recruits.
