Miami Hurricanes shake things up with 4-star Caleb Odom off his official visit: “Them getting the last visit really helped”

With his final official visit of the summer now in the books, Carrollton (Ga.) tight end Caleb Odom will now turn his focus to making a decision as far as his commitment, and the Miami Hurricanes will be fresh on his mind when he does so. Before making his way to Coral Gables for his weekend official visit, Odom believed that since the Hurricanes were going to be the last school he saw before he announces his commitment, it would benefit their chances.
So how did the visit go?
“It went great,” he said. “I built a lot of relationships, got to talk to a lot of new people and coaches and just keep moving forward with all of our relationships. I got to see a lot of stuff.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Odom is the No. 65 player in the nation, the No. 4 tight end, and the No. 10 player in the state of Georgia.
This visit to Miami marked the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder’s third trip to South Florida this year, which is tied for the most out of all the programs that have offered him.
Odom says that schools standing out most right now are Miami, Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M.
As for the Canes’ coaches message to him?
“They definitely know how to use a player like me for sure,” Odom said. “They have some of the greatest coaches in the world.
“They were telling me they know how to use me, they have the stats to back it up having a good tight end last year. That they really know how to use me, that was really their message.”
At the moment, Alabama is the current favorite to land Odom’s commitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but this visit with the Hurricanes could make things very interesting as he nears his decision.
“It was a very big trip – them getting the last visit really helped,” Odom said. “It’ll go on with me until July when I make my decision for sure. You get that family type vibe from the school for sure.
“Miami had a good impact, great impact actually. It’ll kind of shake up my decision now. I have to take everything back home and decide on everything.”
CaneSport’s take
Odom stressed that “the people” at Miami was really what stood out most to him off this visit. “Great people, great vibe,” he said. So with a decision not too far off, we’ll see where this one lands soon enough. Miami’s put itself right in the thick of things.
