Miami Hurricanes impressing four-star linebacker Tarvos Alford early on: “The message to me is that I’m a top priority”

After multiple visits to Coral Gables during the spring, the Miami Hurricanes have established themselves as one of Vero Beach (Fla.) four-star linebacker Tarvos Alford‘s top programs early on for the sought-after 2025 prospect.
Since visiting Miami twice in March, the top-75 prospect, according to On3, has continued to build his relationship with the Hurricanes and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, whom he believes is one of the top position coaches in the country.
“The communication has been great,” Alford told CaneSport. “Me and coach Dnic were on the phone not too long ago. I really like his high energy and the passion he has for the game. I definitely see him as one of the best linebacker coaches in the nation right now.”
Thus far, Nicholson and the Hurricanes staff, including head coach Mario Cristobal, have made it known that they want him in Coral Gables.
“The message to me is that I’m a top priority, and they really want me to get down there,” Alford said. “I also communicate with Coach Cristobal, which is a great feeling.”
When asked what stood out most about Miami, Alford, who is the No. 108 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, raved about the program’s tradition as well as his father’s love for the university.
“I feel that rich history whenever I’m on campus,” Alford said. “They were a winning program in the past, and they’re getting back to that. My dad is a big Miami fan, and he really likes it down there. He’s really pushing me towards Miami.”
The 6-foot-2, 204-pounder, who is originally from South Florida and now plays his high school football about three hours north of his hometown, added that possibly returning home to play in front of his family and friends is something he would enjoy.
“It’s a great feeling just knowing I could be around a lot of my family,” Alford said. “Most of my family still lives down there.”
CaneSport’s take
Along with Miami, Alford noted that programs such as Ohio State, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Penn State are among the schools that he has been in recent contact with. Out of all the schools he listed, Florida, FSU, Ohio State, and Miami were the schools he visited this spring, with Miami nearly getting a third visit from him during the Legends Camp, which he missed due to illness. Early on, Nicholson has done a great job of making Alford feel wanted at Miami, and with his father, who is also a Hurricanes fan, potentially leaning him toward Miami, this should be an interesting recruitment battle down the road.
