Miami Hurricanes coordinator Lance Guidry offers trio of Texas prospects on Dallas-Fort Worth recruiting trip

Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry offered a trio of underclassmen Texas targets on his trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex this week as the Hurricanes’ coaches stay on the recruiting trail.

Guidry offered Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley 2025 running back Cornelius Warren, 2025 linebacker Jonathan Cunningham and 2026 offensive lineman John Turntine III. Miami is the first ACC program to offer 5-foot-10, 170-pound Warren; the first Power Five program to offer 6-foot-3, 190-pound Cunningham (UTSA is his other offer); and the first program to offer 6-foot-5, 280-pound Turntine III, who is a TCU legacy.

Guidry watched the trio’s film with North Crowley head coach Ray Gates and immediately saw them stand out, although none are yet been ranked by On3.

“We talked about some of the kids we have that are highly touted,” Gates said. “We watched film, we did all of that. He knew coming down that we had a lot of talent and that was the focus, and he was able to see that today.”

Gates said Guidry only needed to see two plays before he said “okay, that’s enough. He is special,” and wanted to offer Warren, whose speed and mix of power and agility captured Guidry’s attention. Guidry marveled at Cunningham’s length, range, athleticism and change of direction and Turntine III’s overwhelming size, with Gates adding he’ll likely continue to grow.

And just because offers haven’t poured in doesn’t mean they don’t have the promise to become elite Miami prospects.

“(Turntine III) has the pedigree,” Gates said. “He’s 6-foot-5, 300 (pounds) and he’s only 14-years-old. He was a Junior Olympian in shot put as an eighth grader. His upside is tremendous. He’s one of the biggest human beings he’ll be around at his age group. I could easily see him in the next few years becoming 6-foot-7, 320 (pounds).”

As for Warren and Cunningham?

“Everybody in the country will be on (Warren) or have been on him, whether or not they’ve offered,” Gates said. “Texas wants him down at their elite camp this summer, so I know he’s going to attend that camp, and he’ll probably be going around camps around the country this summer.

“(Cunningham), you don’t find many guys with his frame and his size and his type of athleticism at his age. That long, rangy kid who can run and strikes at the point of attack.”

Gates said the coaching staff plans to sit down with players being recruited to create summer plan before the evaluation period ends and figure out “how to get players to the programs that will matter most for them,” including the newly-Miami-offered trio.

“So getting out to camps with these three guys won’t be an issue,” Gates said. “We’ll make sure that they get there.”

CaneSport’s Take

Miami hasn’t recruited Texas particularly hard given the talent within a two-hour drive from Coral Gables, but the Canes’ staff has made it clear it won’t hesitate to offer a prospect it thinks has potential. Next up will be seeing how strongly Miami attempts to maintain some form of contact with the players, even as underclassmen.
