Miami Dolphins select Jason Marshall in 5th round of 2025 NFL Draft

The Miami Dolphins have selected Florida cornerback Jason Marshall in the 5th round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They took him with the No. 150 overall pick.
Marshall had a productive four-year career at Florida. He made a name for himself by starting seven games as a true freshman in 2021.
From there, Jason Marshall had a bit of an up-and-down career. He struggled a bit as a junior but turned things around as a senior. In his final season in Gainesville, he recorded 20 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and four passes defended.
In total during his career, the native Floridian recorded 98 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 1.0 sacks, a forced fumble, two interceptions and 27 passes defended. He is primarily a cover corner, though scouts will have some nuanced comments about his game.
Prior to enrolling at Florida, Jason Marshall was ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 29 overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He also checked in as the No. 2 cornerback in the class and the No. 5 overall player from the state of Florida, hailing from Miami (FL) Miami Palmetto.
What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Jason Marshall
Because Marshall’s career was a bit up and down at Florida, it invited some questions from scouts and analysts in the lead-up to the draft. In particular, which version of Marshall teams might get.
The size Jason Marshall brings to the table is an obvious positive. His recognition, though, sometimes left a lot to be desired.
So what were analysts saying? The NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein wrote the following in evaluating Marshall as a prospect:
“Outside cornerback with good size, athleticism and experience but too much inconsistency on tape. Marshall can disrupt the release from press and ride route turns to stay in position to defend the throw.
“He falls asleep against play-action and misdirection. Also, he has poor hands when it’s time to flip the field. For his size, he’s a disappointing tackler, especially in run support. The lack of urgency and determination Marshall shows on tape could hurt his stock.”
