Miami commit Isaiah Thomas is ready to be a Hurricane after bonding with coaches “1,000 percent”

Miami commit Isaiah Thomas is ready to be a Hurricane after bonding with coaches “1,000 percent”

Heading into his June official visit with Miami, 2024 Clearwater (Fla.) International Academy three-star safety Isaiah Thomas, a Hurricane commit, wanted to get closer with both defensive coordinator Lance Guidry and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae more as a player than a recruit. He believes he did just that.

“1,000%,” Thomas told CaneSport. “Coach Guidry and I went over the timeline plans for me and stuff like that. Also, coach Addae and I got to sit in the film room, which helped me learn some things so that by the time I get there, I will know everything regarding the scheme.”

Joined by his family, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back enjoyed his time in Coral Gables alongside his fellow 2024 commits.

Throughout the official visit, Thomas had the chance to become more familiar with several of his fellow Hurricanes pledges, including Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School three-star safety Dylan Day, who he will be living with come January.

“The OV went great,” Thomas said. “My family had a good time, and I had a good time. I had the chance to interact with some of the other commits, including Dylan Day, who’s going to be my roommate in January. I also got to know other commits, like Juan Minaya and Judd Anderson. It was just a very chill conversation (with Dylan). Dylan is very similar to me. We talked about regular stuff, football, Louisiana, and Toronto as well.”

While his connection with the Hurricanes staff members and his fellow 2024 commits is strong, Thomas has begun forging a bond with fellow Canadian and current Miami defensive end Ahkeem Mesidor, who hosted him throughout the visit.

“Ahkeem’s my guy, and we have a great time hanging out,” Thomas said. “I talk to him weekly and I ask him how things are going at Miami. I ask him things other people wouldn’t know about, and honestly, he’s like my main source for information and knowledge about what it’s like to be down there.”

With his official visit in the books and his recruitment shutdown, Thomas is now focused on not only preparing for his senior season but also his time in Miami.

“What’s most important for me right now is that I continue to stay healthy,” Thomas said. “I’m also getting a chance to study Miami’s scheme and coach Guidry’s scheme to make sure when I get there I know everything.”

CaneSport’s take

Miami has done a great job from start to finish with Thomas’s recruitment which has led to him effectively shutting things down and focusing on plans to be on campus in December.
